Wondex Confusion

Hey everyone,

I am about to buy a GPS for my Axim. However I have a few quick questions before I make my GPS purchase:

1. Would either the WondeX BT-100Y or WondeX BT760Y be a good purchase or should I look at buying a different GPS?

2. What is the difference between the two Wondex GPS? I look at them and see no difference other than cosmetic. Which would be the better to buy?

WondeX BT-100Y Link

WondeX BT760Y Link

Thanks for any help,
Chris

I don't see much difference either. I'd go to BuyGPSnow and search thru their forums.

Here's a link to an Aximsite review of the BT-100Y:

Thank you, kcallahan for the response. The above mentioned article is why I chose to go with a WondeX GPS. While at buygpsnow I saw that they had the two for sale. As you stated I don't see a difference really. Thanks to google and some Semsons News blog I found my asnwer to the differences:

"WondeX has released two new Bluetooth GPS receivers based on 44 channels Skytraq chipset with AGPS function and motion sensor for smart power management. BT-100Y has user replaceable battery and 17 hours of battery life while BT-760Y has built-in battery and 44 hours of battery life." (Quoted from Semsons News Blog)

That answers by 2nd question but any takers on the 1st?

Maybe JakeRich can shed some light on this. He's the GPS Guru around here.

I did the review of the one Wondex already pointed to. Seems to me the difference is battery life and replace-ability. The Wondex was a good receiver, there are others about the same. I can't say what's best, because what's best for me is not best for others.

Basically, I expressed my thoughts on what is important in GPS receivers in GPS 201, and nothing I've seen has changed my mind.

I bought the BT760Y, mainly for the long battery life. The receiver worked fine, but I noticed that it seemed to have a greater lag than either my Visiontac or my Rikaline... greater by around two seconds. I tried it with several different PDAs, although the same software (Mapopolis), running pairs of receivers side by side, and couldn't isolate the cause of the difference other than to the receiver. I wound up giving the Wondex to my son before I ever got to test the battery life. Other than the lag (and the unmeasured battery life), however, the receiver performance was fine.
