Hi Guys
This is my first post on here!
Ive recently bought my axim x50 from a friend who has lost the CD for the BC337 and when i switch it on it says it has an unrecognized card and to 'Enter the name of for this card. For info see the card maufacturers documentation'
Ive had a look on Globalstars website and there doesnt appear to be any drivers to download for this.
Does anyone have any ideas as im desperate to use the Tom Tom for my new job on Monday
Im running Windows mobile 6.1 with Vista on My laptop and Tom tom 5

No drivers are required for this device. Simply cancel the request to name the card and start your GPS software. Set the port assignments only in the GPS software, and don't bother with the GPS setup program on the system under settings as it's not required and can really mess things up.

Gps Software? Im assuming you mean Tom tom? Im also missing the disk for the tom tom software!
I assume you cant make any changes when you open up Tom tom as there is nowhere on the menu that says so except other than when you configure.
So...Where do i make these changes exactly?
Basically Tom Tom isnt able pick up any GPS devices even tho the red light on the GPS device comes on when you switch the Axim on
Im getting very confused!
Help again!

I haven't used TomTom since V2, so I'm not fully up to speed on it's settings. When I use Iguidance, I can go to a GPS tab which allows me to see all communications between the GPS and the PPC. You say you have the GPSInfo program? Have you set it up and see if there's any communication between the Globalsat and the PPC? You should see what satellites the unit has found, and once you have 2 or 3 you should see your position. You could be communicating but have no satellite locks which would cause Tom tom to appear to not be communicating. Make sure you have it outside with a clear view of the sky for best results. Tom Tom was fickle with com port assignments which is the reason I went with Iguidance. There is a place to make the com settings within the program, and make sure that you chose the right com port and 4800 baud.

That is a link for GPSInfo, a utility to test that the GPS is working, but it isn't necessary to get the GPS going. You can use it to find out the COM port and baud rate to set in TT, but it isn't necessary to connect.
TT is notorious for not wanting anything but TT GPS receivers. Look on the settings page for generic GPS, set it to the COM port and baud rate (use GPSInfo if you need to) of the receiver and they should communicate. I don't have TT, so I can't give you the exact tap sequence to get there, sorry.

Guys thanks for the replies on this
Firstly
Ivan - Ive used the GPS info and it picks up no sat signal on any com port, even outside! Is Iguidance similar to GPS info?
floatinaffro - Thanks for the links but ive already tried them which gave me GPS info
Jake - Are you talking about the settings page within the Axim or on the TOM TOM software? if so how do i find these on the axim? The com port settings on the Axim ive checked out but it doesnt allow me to change them! do i assume i have to change these in TT to match?
Thanks again guys im really pleased i joined this forum even though im still no further forward its still a help

Change in TomTom. I don't have it, so I can't tell you how to get there. Choose a Generic CF card and it should work. If not, try Generic Serial and tell it COM X, where the X is whatever GPSInfo reports for the unit.
Some clarification from you. You told Ivan that you didn't get any sat signal. Does that mean that you did connect to the receiver and that you can see the NMEA statements flowing into the Axim, but the receiver never shows any satellites (Even after 20 minutes outside in the clear, not moving)? Or are you saying that GPSInfo never found the unit on any COM port and that no statements are showing in GPSInfo? That's an important distinction.

OK, are you saying that when you try GPSinfo that you get no NEMA data flowing to the Axim? When you set the com port and baud rate, then click the start GPS button, you should see odd looking characters flowing on the screen which start with a $. This tells you that the unit is communicating with the PDA. On my Toshiba e740, it's Com1, 4800. On my Dell X50v, it's com4, 4800. If you're not getting any signal through to the PDA but it's turning on the red light (and again, if left outside for up to 20 minutes in clear site of the sky) and the light on the GPS doesn't flash then there's a bigger problem at work. Do you have access to any other PDA with a compact flash slot you can try the unit 337 on? Also, if you're using WM5, please make sure that you did not set up anything in the GPS settings program of the OS. Leave everything there blank and setup only in the actual software. Try a soft reset before trying to run GPS info as well to make sure that nothing else is running and trying to use the com port.

Jake - Im saying that gpsinfo never found the unit on any com port and no statements are showing.
If i click on Cold start then i get this come up
$PSRF
...OK
Ive also done a soft reset like Ivan said just in case still with no joy
I dont have any access to any other PDAs which is a real pain as they may answer if the device is brown bread..Im running WM6 but i dont recall changing any settings or anything!
Hope thats answers the questions..Trust me to always get the awkard problems all the time!

There isn't any authorized version of WM6 for the Axim series, so now you are out of the book. I missed your earlier post saying you had WM6 or I could have warned you then.
At this point, I would suspect that either you have had a major failure of the card function caused by the WM6 (not necessarily hardware, just a duff driver in the image burned on the machine), or the receiver itself is bad. Given that you cannot eliminate the first possibility (unless you get another GPS unit to work), you don't have much of a leg to stand on to claim the second.
I think you're stuck, unless someone also running exactly the same unauthorized WM6 image on exactly your hardware has exactly that GPS unit and it is working for them. That is, clearly, a very unlikely event.

Sorry Jake i forgot to say that WM6 is running on my latop but not on the axim which i suspect it means the latter on your reply, which is the gps device not working properly for whatever reason:(

I was under the impression that WM6 worked like WM5, but since it's not a "true" manufacturer build it may not be and this may be the problem. Make sure that you haven't done anything in the GPS utility in the settings of the OS. Another thing you could try before you give up is do a complete backup, followed by a hard reset. Remember this will wipe out anything you have installed so make sure you have backed-up anything you might need or want (software like Sprite makes a complete backup, but I am unsure of it's status with WM6). Change no settings other than the user name, unit name, then install only the GPSinfo program and try it and see it it works.
If all else fails, you can always get the utility from Dell and roll back to 2003SE which is very fast, stable, and compatible. If you like the newer look and feel you can install WM5 A02 which I'm running on mine. With the fake server hack in place it runs great and I have the same GPS unit.
Edit: You might also what to check out this link for a driver that reportedly solves some of the issues you seem to have. Can't speak for it as I have never experienced the problem.
