Using Axim for real-time GPS tracking
I wanted to let everyone know about a new service I have built called TrickerTracker which can be used on smartphones and Axims (I personally own an X50v which I used for testing) for real-time GPS tracking. Go to Tricker Tracker: GPS Tracking Software to get the software. The site also hosts the database which stores coordinates in real-time. I would love if anyone with a GPS and an Axim would try it out and give me feedback. The software and the service is completely free.

I registered on your site then downloaded the app.
It initiates on my HTC Advantage 7501 WM6 Pro and
goes into scan and reports finding the onboard gps on
Com 5 @ 4800 then crashes.
I attached screenshots of the resulting fault report.

I certainly appreciate the good description of the problem and I do believe I have resolved it. Please give it another try. You can install this CAB without the need to uninstall previous version; it will install right on top of it. I have updated the files on the website so please go there or click here. Let me know if this works for you.

Well I spent sometime this pm with the Ax51v and TrickTracker v0.8
and finally achieved results but not he way I thought it was designed
to work.
Using Dell/Navteq with BT332 I first let BT332 lock on then initiated
Dell/Navteq app then initiated TrickTracker.
By either manually designating Com 7 @ 4800 or using scan it
locked on to data stream.
Is this the proper usage?
Here are pics of data screens:

Yes, that is it. I will soon add a help page on the application to more specifically explain the behavior. But what you have should now work. You just need to put your username and password on the Setup tab so it will start sending coordinates. The Secs to Send will count down to 0 and at that time the software will either send the coordinates or buffer them. It will repeat every 120 seconds. After a couple of sends you should start seeing data on the website. I will upload a new version with a No Parse button for troubleshooting purposes which may help to show why the HTC doesn't work. I think it's possible that your HTC may not use 4800 baud rate and currently the Scan feature only checks the ports and it won't autodetect the speed.

The HTC Advantage 7501 has the internal gps and its factory
configuration on a stock unit is data on Com 5 @ 4800,having said
that you can influence the ports and baud rates via the External
Gps settings under programs.
I will download and try the latest version asap.
Well that didn't take long, version .85 is working as far as data
on the HTC 7501 now.
Started app by itself after connecting to net via wifi
then went to diagnose tapped No Parse.
Back to Setup set user & password then tapped Scan
it locked on Com 5 @ 4800 with all data being shown
in both Output and Diagnose screens.
I post pics if you think it will help.
Checked site but didn't see anything under lat/lon or map.

After hitting Scan or GPS ON button, the Output tab should show coordinates. Every 2 minutes the Cooridates Buffered or Coordinates Sent value should increment. If the Coordinates Buffered is incrementing, that means it is gathering data but it wasn't able to send them to the server. This should only happen when there is no data connectivity over the internet. If the Coordinates Sent increments, that means coordinates were sent successfully to the server. After a couple of sends, data should appear on the site.

Well it has worked sporadically since my last post,Iwent outside to test all
5 gps oriented programs I have installed and they all work extemely well.
TrickTracker worked outside also but later efforts to restart the app
proved frustrataing so I will investigate tomorrow to see if it's me
or the manner I am doing things, probably simple solution.

Is the application crashing upon startup? Or is it crashing when you press the GPS ON button? Does it register any Sent or Buffered coordinates? It's possible that the serial port on the HTC sends some garbage at the beginning when the application opens the serial port and this could be causing parsing errors but it's difficult to tell. If you can send me the output from the top screen after hitting the No Parse button, that may give a clue. Regardless, I will add a slight delay to the parse function after receiving serial port data.

I set it up as previoulsy with the params I said before and it idicates
on setup screen PORT FOUND,then if I quickly switch to Diagnose
screen I can see data in the top box then it crashes even if I make it
to the No Parse tab.
It works from time to time but not consistently, especially frustrating
entering info multiple times,I know it will run I have seen it running.
If I get it up again I'll try to take screen caps.

Worked without a hitch on my 51v. The website only shows co-ordinates, but then I guess the map overlay will be a work for the future ;)
I'm impressed with it so far! Was sending the data via a BT mobile phone connection, fetching it from a CF GPS... All worked fine :)
Good work sir!

Thanks for the comments DJUnreal. The Axim scenario is the one that I tested the most. What model BT GPS did you use? I noticed that you registered but you didn't confirm your user account by email. That's why you didn't see the map overlay. I went ahead and confirmed you directly so now you should have access to the map. Have another look!

I have tried several different approaches to app on the 7501 but can't seem to achieve connects with site when it does work but having said that
I will continue to try.
If you could post a step by step procedure I may be doing something
out of sequence or just plain missing a step.
If I set it up like this with wifi connect varified I get the following screens
and when I tap GPS ON it crashes.

First step should be to select the COM port and baud rate and fill out the username and password like you show on the capture. Note that the capture you sent shows that GPS is turned OFF (that's because the button says GPN ON). That part may be confusing. Hit the button so that it says GPS OFF. Saying it sounds funny, but the idea is that the button label shows what action will take place when you hit it. Next, go to the Diagnose tab and look to see if any coordinates are shown. Also observe the "Secs to Send" value counting down to zero. When that value hits zero, the application will try to send the coordinates. This will be shown on the Output tab. If at this point you get a value under Coordinates Sent, then everything is good. Let it do it a couple of times. If the value Coordinates Buffered increases, it means it couldn't reach the server and it will try again in 2 minutes. If neither one increases, look to see that the Lat and Long values aren't zero. The application won't send zero-valued coordinates (if the GPS hasn't found satellites).
