Dell Axim TomTom reinstall after battery loss
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this. I run TomTom 5.21 on my axim and it works fine with all my maps and a BT-338 receiver but if i leave it for a few days the battery loses charge and when I start it up it has to reinstall Tomtom all over again. None of the other programs need to do this.
Is there any way of installing Tomtom once and for all. Where should I be saving the program, on the memory card or on the hard drive?
Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,

Tim

What Axim model are you using and where are the other apps
without the problem installed?
Hard drive????
If you install on mem cards battery loss should not have a
significant impact on accessability.

It's an Axim x30. What I mean by all other programs are things like MSN and Word which are already on when you buy it.
What happens is I charge it up, use it for a bit then I might leave it for a few days and the battery drains away. Is this normal?
I then recharge it and when I go to restart it I have to go through aligning the screen and set the time and date then reinstall TomTom.
Just done a hard reset and it is exactly the same as when the battery runs out. Surely it shouldn't hard reset completely every time the battery runs out.
Is it set up wrong?

By the way, it's running Windows Mobile 4.21. Can I upgrade to 5. I read that this version protects against battery drain resets.

The battery maintains what you have in memory, you do not have static storage on WM4.21. When the battery runs down, everything that is not stored in ROM is lost.

I am not aware of a way to upgrade to WM5 on your unit. Because the unit is relatively old, your only recourse is to upgrade to a WM5 or newer (WM6, WM6.1) device.

Why not leave it on the charger when you are not using it?

Not being familiar with x30 I would go along with dkimak
and leave on the charger.
The other apps you mention are in ROM so they won't disappear.
Again the x30 has a storage card I would simply install apps
to the card.
