Just a simple question, do they make some kind of shareware program that has a compass. I am getting ready to go on a trip and would like to use my Axim to hike, bike or anything that would let me know what direction I am going in such as North, South, East, and West. If you have anything like this, could you please post the link for me?
Thank you for all your help. I did a search on this forum but came up emptied handed.
What you're going to need is a bluetooth gps... have a look in the gps forum

Careful here. GPS tells you the direction you are travelling, not the direction you are facing. It calculates your movement from fix-to-fix and uses the change as your direction and speed. But it isn't a compass that points north, or knows north, so if you stop it can't show you a direction because fix-to-fix you aren't moving.
Well, the OP did say he needed to know which way he was going, implying that he would be moving and not stationary.
true, but the OP's first statement was

The simple answer to that is "No, because GPS shows direction of movement, not direction of facing." On the other hand, if what he really wants is something to show that movement, then GPS can help. Just want to make sure the OP gets what he/she needs.
I like my PDA GPS (X51v with IG3), but if you need a compass, just go buy a basic compass. That will certainly be less expensive than anything you'll do with your PDA plus it won't need batteries, is waterproof and relatively tough compared to the PDA. It's a lot smaller too.

There are a couple GPS with built-in compass. Lights flash to indicate when you are facing North. But I agree, much easier to understand and use a $10 compass than the Axim plus GPS...
Thank you for all your help on my issue. I guess I didn't express what I truly wanted. All I am asking is a compress program that I can install and when I am out on the trails, I can use this compress on my Axim to direct myself back to the starting point to assist me in reducing my chances of getting lost. I hope this clear up some confussion we are having on what I'm asking for. If not, please let me know. Thank you
Nope, that was a good update. What you want is one of the mapping software options out there. I'm going to move this to the GPS Forum. You'll find folks there who can assist you with their comments on the products available.
