I am using a GlobalSat SiRFStarIII CF-Receiver ( installation ok, works fine on its own ) and have bought Garmin Mapsource WorldMap ( I have worked with a Garmin GPS before and like it ). Managed to load that on my SD-card ( 2G) as well which is in the Axim slot ( A nice function of the Garmin system that you can plan everything on your PC and than transfer to the SD-card ).
Downloaded nRoute_276 from Garmin as the actual software. That works fine on the PC but when I put it on the SD-card and start the program from the SD-card using file explorer I do get a message “ nRoute_276 is not a valid pocket PC application” and the program refuses to start.
Any ideas please ?
( I like to stick with Garmin if possible, they cover the whole world, the MapSource-system looks great; I do not need en detail street maps or navigation by voices, no fancy calculations etc, just a plain map with tracks, points etc.; I have a “proper” GPS as well and use the Axim as a nice add-on and Gadget or back-up )
Is the PC to SD card option perhaps something that you can only do to transfer a route onto a regular Garmin unit (not a PDA)?
I betcha that you still need to Garmin XT mobile software on your PDA to load the route -- or perhaps that option in only available for a self-contained Garmin auto unit? I will troll through the support material that came with my Garmin unit to see what I can see!
I did wonder as well, but than I was not quite sure which one, Gamin Mobile XT or Garmin Mobile 10 ( sometimes with the add " labtop" ).
I still hope nRoute would work somehow on the Axim , would just be great. nRoute is probably the newer software.
cheers, Fred
Hiya. I have the same configuration as you Fred (what a coincidence) .
nRoute is designed ONLY for laptops.
But Garmin Mobile XT only works with Garmin GPS receivers. There is no such thing as "Garmin Mobile 10", I think you meant Garmin GPS 10 (Which is a Bluetooth receiver): https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=272.

yes, you are right - "garmin Mobile 10 for smartphone" or "garmin mobile 10 for PDA" is the version of bluetooth-gps + garmin mobile XT software.
with other words ( the legal version ) :
I should get
- garmin mobile XT-software ( £51.06 + VAT )
- then the upgrade Garmin mobile XT for windows mobile , version 4.20.50w ( free firmware upgrade )--however, is this necessary ?
- then get Franson GpsGate Standart ( US 19.95 )
and then run the application using my non-garmin CF-GPS and use nRoute via GpsGate to install garmin-WorldMap via MapSource ????
cheers, frieder
PS: a good Garmin upgrade probably really needs the original software, hmmm
Hi there,
I am back from holiday and try to get the GPS sorted.
next problem :
- the Garmin Mobile XT software : it states in the features that " ...it is not possibleto trasfer your Gamin mobile XT data to a larger card "
I only have one SD slot, the other is for the GPS. I do not know how large the original card is and if there is any further space. I would really like to have everything on a larger SDcard including GpsGat and nRoute and the GarminWorldMap via Mapsource/nRoute.
Hi there, I am back after a lot of travel without the AximGPS.
Anyway, I like to get it sorted.
Current set-up :
- Axim x51v
- GlobalSat SiRFStarIII CF-Receiver ( installation ok, works fine on its own ), on Com4 of the installation program ( named GPSInfo )
- bought Garmin mobile XT-software and map ( UK&Ireland ) on the usual SD-Card and upgraded to Garmin mobile XT for windows mobile, latest version
now : Garmin XT opens fine.....first had a lot of problems finding the GPS....anyway, after a lot of trying I did set the Axim-program ( settings ) for GPS to manual on
-GPS program port : Com4
-GPS hardware port : Com2 ( Baud rate 4800 as always )
Then sometimes, only sometimes, the GarminXT program finds the GPS on Com4 ( even when preset on this program to Com4 ) and shows maps and routes etc, very nice. So no need for a splitter program, apparently.
However, after maximum 3 minutes the whole thing freezes and I have to soft-restart the Axim.
There are no other programs running and it freezes as well when I just walk around, no car driving. It freezes with and without language-guided driving.
Maybe I seem to be the only one with that problem....so either I was stupid enough to try the Axim with Garmin or all the others have sorted out the problem already!!!
for the latter ones----help, please !!?? How did you do it ??
Does anyone think I should try one of the splitter programs for a more stable connection, maybe this helps the Axim to "see" the GPS-unit easier and stabilises the whole thing once it is up and running ?
And if yes, which of the splitter programs should I use with my Axim ? ( Maybe the ones which support nRoute at the end; but which are they ? )
I see there is "gpsproxy 2.2" and "Franson GPSGate" on the market. Any suggestions ?
Hi folks,
just in case someone else reads this threat...here is an update :
GPSProxy did not work...bought the Franson GPS Gate and...hey--it works.....
well....only after some time of fiddeling around and swearing a lot...but anyway, it works....
only it does not like the british round about....always ( and I mean always ) freezes at the second or
third roundabout...whether in the car, or walking...very strange..I tried everything...I now guess the software was developped by some kind of roundabout-hater
this is a bit ennoying if you rely on the GPS in cities...it tends to freeze exactely then when you would appreciate some directions....better to be alone in the car because of all the swearing
anyway, never freezes on the continent ...but then there are not too many of these speed-restricting things around...really , very strange
on the good side Garmin has on its SD card a small world edition ( my editionis for UK and Ire only ), so that is great...only no street names etc
that means I do not need to upload nRoute etc.
So half a success story..if it was not for the britophob software producer
I will now get a bluetooth receiver...and hope my wife will not find out how much money I spend
