Hmm Axim's "External GPS" utility?

I've an X51v, with WM6.1 & Broadcom BT upgrade.
Everything seems to work fine.
1-Does the "External GPS" utility do anything?
Swapping the 'GPS Program' & 'Hardware' port from COM7 & COM8, reversing them to 8 & 7, and selecting 'none' in either location or both has no negative affect on the following programs. nor does checking or un-checking th automatics management button.
I can only run one program at a time, regardless of how the 'External GPS' automange is checked.
-Pocket Navigator
-MobiTerm
-AstroNavigator
2-I guess my question is, can I completly ignore the 'External GPS' utility from now on? If so what's it's purpose?

I believe that your WM6.1 ROM has been built from a Phone Rom that had a built in GPS,
They have an "external GPS" application to allow them to use other GPS devices,
I would appear that, as you are using the Broadcom BT to connect to an External GPS everytime, the application should be pretty much useless to you.

My ipaq 210 (non phone device) has the external GPS settings utility builtin the rom as well, so I would assume it is not just a phone application. I think it is supposed to help support gps somehow but I just use the drivers for my gps receiver. I have only played around with the external support very little.

On my HTC 7501 w/WM 6 Pro this app allows you to direct
the acquisiition of the built in GPS unit directly or change
the comports and if you checkmark the management box
it allows windows to find the gps data whenever you start
gps apps.

should I remove it?

So far with Broadcom on my Axim described above, the External GPS Mgr appears to do nothing that regard. Should I remove it? I have only been able to run one gps application at a time though. I wonder if Franson's GPSGate would help me in that regard?

So am I limited to 'one' GPS app running at a time?

Will Franson's GPSGate would help me in that regard?

Franson's GPSGate works fine with the above configuration in post #1. All GPS apps can work simutaneously off the same GPSGate port.
And if you wish to filter some of the extraneous NMEA sentence I have you can set a separate v-Com port for that particular app.
