Hi, I do NOT hold right to this picture, just pull it off Ebay (and I do not even know if I am allowed to, sorry). I think this GPS system is manufactured by Dell, but it probably got discontinued, and I cannot find any information on it except one positive review. It is basically a wired system, with a windshield holder for the Axim to sit on. I was wondering if anybody knows anything about this system and may give me your opinion on it. Thank you very much.
Assuming that it is the one OEM'd by Dell, it was a decent one THEN. It is substandard by today's standards.
It most likely isn't a "wired" BT dongle, it is just getting power from a splitter on the Axim's car power adapter. It should be a BT GPS... Most of the GPS devices out are BT as well.
So, if you can get it and all the software (probably several years old with out of date maps) VERY cheaply... Well, if you want it is OK.
I'd suggest that you look at some of the newer BT GPS bundles, which you could get for about $100-150 including new maps and a warranty. Look in my sig for the link to discounts. Or directly to Exclusive Discounts for members of Aximsite.com
Your mileage may vary.
(get it, I made a pun... Mileage may vary/old maps??? I crack myself up)

I agree with radimus about the receiver and the software being outdated. I also find it strange that the seller has it bundled with the X51v, which has integrated BT. Most people would not be purchasing a serial GPS when BT ones are much more convenient. Also, the seller avoided the text-to-speech question, meaning the software may not be that great.
BTW, I am assuming that the ebay listing is this one:
Rad & Gigi are right. I have one that came with an Axim I recently got off Mobililtysite. I believe it's a Dell/Pharos wired GPS system. Works fine for me, though I bought the whole shooting match for the X51v, not the GPS. Bluetooth would be better.

Wow, thanks for replying. I forgot about the out-of-date thing.
I don't know. All I want is a text-to-speech GPS system, and I don't really use it that much, just for travelling maybe once a month. I initially thought it would be cheaper to get one that works with an Axim, but from looking at the receiver + software (not including the map which someone said must also be bought separately), they come out to $150+. Wouldn't I be better off getting a stand-alone GPS at that price?

If GPS is your main objective, then I'd get a stand-alone one. As rad said, they are not that expensive; just make sure you get the features you want (e.g., text-to-speech). I've used both - Axim + BT GPS and stand-alone Garmin - to me, the Garmin is much more convenient just because you only have one thing to setup and don't have to worry about pairing devices. You also don't need to worry about powering up two devices. However, if you plan to use the Axim for other purposes (e.g., PDA, multimedia), then of course the Axim + GPS would be a fine option. (I now own a smartphone so do not carry my Axim with me everyday.)
