Need help with Bluetooth GPS Navteq on Board and Axmin x51v

Hi guys,

I just bought a used X51v and it came with a Navteq On Board Bluetooth GPS receiver and the Dell Navigation SW (2CDs).

I have been trying for days to get it working but somehow I can't figure it out. I had the GPS working once but it crashed when I closed the Dell Navigation Application. I had to hard reset the Axim but since then I am not successful to redo what I did before.

I had the GPS working once again with Google Maps but it's won't work with the Dell Nav SW. I reinstalled it - no change.

Can somebody please tell me step-by-step how to connect? What are the settings? Do you let WM5 handle the GPS or do you handle it manually? Secured or unsecured COM port? What am I doing wrong?

This is what I did to get it working occasionally (not very stable):
- WM5->GPS settings: turn Automatic management of GPS off (access tab)
- turn Buetooth On
- new partnership -> GPS receiver is found (BT-GPS-00E2B1) It asks for access code: entered 0000, but it will not accept it, then I enter nothing, hit Next
- A pop up shows up and asks me if I want to add the GPS receiver, I click Yes
- It asks again for the passcode, 0000 works now
- Check Serial Support & Finsh
- COM Ports: New Outgoing Port -> COM7, disable Secure Connection checkbox
- hit Finish
- Bluetooth icon on the today screen turns green

I started Google Maps, Set it to COM7, 4800 baud and it worked once. I stopped Google Maps and made sure it is not running anymore (task stopped)
The Dell Navigation will still not work, no GPS detected

I noticed that if I select Secure Connection in the COM port setting, it will ask me again if I want to add the GPS to the Bluetooth list as soon as a application tries to read data from COM7. If I say Yes, it will remove the previously created partnership and nothing will work anymore.

What am I doing wrong? Help please!

In order to use the Dell maps I believe you will have to delete the BT partnership all together with the GPS. The Dell program will automatically detect the GPS & communicate with it. All you should need to do is turn on the BT GPS then open the GPS app on your axim. It should automaically detect your GPS.

I would also delete any port that you added.

I tried that. Removed it all and let the Dell Navigation search for the GPS using the build in Dell GPS detector. It does not find the GPS. Nothing detected.

Turn the automatic management on. It's easier to find ports and baud rate. It's odd that 0000 does not work for the passcode the first time. Check if you are having trouble connection your GPS to your PC.

You do not have to pair the BT GPS with the Dell Navigation system. Eveything is done automatically when the Dell Navigation Software is opened on your axim. It should automatically search for your
GPS. If the GPS will not work with Google Maps then perhaps it is hosed.

Have you tried a hard reset?

I once did a hard reset on my 51v with Navteq and BT 332 and
had to reload the nav system back to get it to work,it all depends
how the app was set up.The Dell/Navteq normally does not have to
be paired up the autodetect routine takes care of everything.
Mine still is working flawlessly plus I have added Trekbuddy J2ME
and have paired the BT 332 to use with the app, works great.
The passkey on mine is 2003.

So I got it working in the meanwhile. If I follow these steps, it'll work. The GPS will not function and the Nav SW will crash otherwise:

- WM5->GPS settings: turn Automatic management of GPS off (access tab)
- turn Bluetooth On
- new partnership -> GPS receiver is found (BT-GPS-00E2B1) It asks for access code:
- entered 0000, but it will not accept it, then I enter nothing, hit Next
- Select Serial Support & Finish
- COM Ports: New Outgoing Port -> COM7, disable Secure Connection check box
- hit Finish

- WAIT UNTIL GREEN LED of the GPS receiver blinks (GPS lock)
- Start Navigation SW

Not sure what GPS receiver you have but mine shows up as a BT-309. Like I said, you shouldn't have to partner the receiver with your Axim to use the Dell Nav software. I tried using Live Search a couple of times & did the partnership to created the comm port. Each time I did this the Dell Nav. software would not see the GPS anymore. I would have to delete the com port. Glad you have it working.
