I bought my x50v (with navigation pack) from Aug 2005 till now..
During so, I switched from bluetooth gps to CF card type gps, mainly because of the troublesome reconnecting to gps whenever I need to power on x50v again and again.
I didnt like to reboot my x50v to connect to gps successfully.
Well, the problems are much reduced but still I experience gps-to-pda reconnection problems. I cannot help rebooting my x50v.
I would really appreciate if somebody know good way to ensure the gps always bound to x50v whenever I turn on the x50v and share the tips here.
Otherwise, my x50v gets quite useless since its only use was for navigation... and I will need to buy just small price garmin gps similar to what my wife used for two years w/o any frustrations from rebooting problems.: laugh:
Just curious, why would you need to switch between a Bluetooth and CF GPS?

Hi-
Well, it maybe sounds strange but it was to increase the chances of connection at one shot.
Many times, I needed to reboot x50v to connect to bluetooth gps.
The CF gps was better in terms of chances of cumbersome rebooting.
After finishing navigator + gps, I wanted to just turn off the x50v but doing that way needed rebooting of x50v many times. So alternative method was close the dell navagator sw completely and then turn off the x50v. This was seem little better but still often needed rebooting.
This has been happening for my two gps, 1) dell bundled bluetooth gps, 2) CF card gps.
2) was little better, seemingly because it is not using bluetooth connection, but not sure why...
x50v <---- bluetooth -----> gps (bluetooth)
after using navigator once and need to use it next time (by just powering on the x50v),
bluetooth seems okay to connext, but I think gps is not (re)initialized well.
Doing so, in fact, sw routine for gps is not exceuted from the start but just need to wake-up as like frm hibernation of windows pc.
Has anyone else experienced similar rebooting, because gps is not waking-up well?
hey- thanks for the reply.
yes, soft-reset (pressing the button on the back) is what I do for rebooting.
I always check not have other tasks in the memory. So, OS (and its other tasks) and Dell Navigation are only programs I can see in task list.
When I say navigator sw cannot connect to gps, I dont mean x50v is stucked or halted, neither dell navigotor sw itself is not working. I can still press and see the 'satellite view (?)' screen of the dell navi sw. However I can see that data communication (well, one-way reception) is not wokring.
Also, my CF gps can signifiy me its working status, and one of them is 'blinking' light, meaning that it is receiving 3 or more satellite signals well. While I see my cf gps is receiving 3 or more satellite signals...., well my dell navigator sw seems not getting those data from satelllite.

I'm sorry, but I'm a little bit confused about these two paragraphs. When you reconnect, the GPS software is still working but it doesn't receive the GPS signals?
Also, when I said to do a soft reset, I meant before you connect for the very first time (not because you are having problems powering off the device). Maybe that might make a difference?

Yes, I meant 'reconnect' by turning off and on. For ex, day 1, I turn it on, navigate it, and off. On day 2, I tried to turn it on, but gps software (i.e. Dell Navigator) is working but cannot connect to GPS (does not receive GPS signal). This is quite intermittent, so roughly half or 1/3 of the trials was fine.

Yes, in any case, the soft reset (by pressing back buffton) put everything in normal. Dell Navigator can connect to gps with no problems at all..
Don't leave the navigation software running when you power off. That is not a clean way to exit. THe software needs to disconnect correctly from the COM port, which it does when you exit the software first, then power down the Ax. Same for Bluetooth, it will lose it's connection if you power off with devices connected and require that you reconnect manually. You don't need to soft reset, but you do need to go through the pairing process again if you power off with BT connected. The all in ones like the Garmins go through a shutdown process when you hit the power button, but because the Axim is not a single-purpose machine, the system cannot handle power off exits.
So, when you want to shut down, first stop the navigation software, then you can power down the AX. next time, power it up and then restart the navigation software. That should be more reliable.
