I'm using a Holux GR-271 CF card GPS receiver. It worked well with a couple of golf tracking programs I've used. Unfortunately, unless you've got plenty of battery power the AX won't last much more than 9 holes on a 2200maH battery. It's also a bit cumbersome to carry around, unless you're in a riding cart.

IF you had two extended batteries you'd probably be O.K. My one extended battery lasted about 2.5 hours. Two should last 5 hours, which should give you all of 18 holes.
I even tried turning it off, then back on. But, then you have to wait for it to acquire the satellites every time you turn it back on.

ahhh yeah, i think they guys waiting behind would probably end up aiming shots at me lol.
if all else fails i'll just forget about the wireless gps and just get some google-maps images of the holes..might work out a bit better + i'd be able to turn off/on without too much disruption.
A CF- Wifi or CF-GPS card drains your battery unbelievably quickly. I have a GlobalSat CF GPS that sits in the back of my closet because it kills my battery too fast. I believe my Axim x51v with a pretty much brand new battery, fully charged, only lasted 1 1/2 hours with that thing. It's a battery hogger.
Your best bet is a Bluetooth GPS receiver (It's a separate device) like Garmin GPS 10 or 10x (A lot cheaper). Or Google Maps...

The only problem with a BT receiver is trying to walk around the golf course with that and the AX. :o
I do agree the CF GPS receiver does eat the battery pretty good.

I've linked my AX to my Nokia 6555 with BT. I could do a few things but the phone doesn't have GPS built in. So, I'm not sure if your AX could sync up with the GPS section in your phone.

I think i might just set it up in my car (with my wired gps receiver) and use the get screenshots feature in the golf software i'm using...saves me money & i my batteries should last the 18 holes then.........hopefully lol.
They don't have a course map/layout on the scorecard? Plus, you can normally purchase a course book with a lot of details (hole layout, yardages, etc) from the pro shop. I have one for each of the courses I play on a regular basis. It's not as accurate as GPS. But, it will help with club selection. :)

yeah for that software i've got you can download the courses from the website, i had them all on my pda (not anymore cuz i've updated to wm05) but i'll redownload them later on.
There's an option in it to transfer over the images from google earth/maps into the software and i can track my shots "offline" without gps. not as quick but cheaper and less messing around it seems.
will have a play around later, see how well it works, weather permitting i should be able to test it all out on the course on Sunday morning :D
