Static navigation change?

Hi,

I am using Beeline GPS with the Globalstat BT-368i GPSr for geocaching, with my Ipaq 210.

When I get to the point of slowing down to a stroll or stopping on foot and starting to search for the actual cache, my GPS info is very jumpy with all the coordinates all over the place. I was googling today and it seems to me this is related to Static navigation? Does that sound correct to you also?

Please note that I do not have this issue with the same setup (except for my sirf III CF GPSr, holux GR-271).

If this is indeed related to static navigation, is there an easy way I can disable (or enable depending on what terminology is refering to).

The GPS connects and communicaltes flawlessly otherwise.

Thanks

The accuracy of GPS is somewhere in the 3 to 15 meter range, depending on the quality of the fix. Once you slow down, the jumpiness is the fix moving around inside that range from fix to fix. Static Navigation turns off any small movements so that the jumpiness goes away, which is good, but it also means you aren't really navigating any more. Depending on how your receiver is designed, you would have to resume movement above the threshold (usually 2-3 mph) or move greater that the threshold distance from the last fix (usually about 20 m). I can't tell you how to set Static navigation on your unit, but you can look at the manual here. From a quick search, it doesn't seem to have a setting for that. Beeline doesn't ignore any fixes, so I don't think you can avoid the jumpiness there.

Thanks. I looked at the manual and globatstat faqs previouslky and it did not help. Their tech support told me that I needed to disable the static navigation using whatever GPS software I have. I found another solution from a different website forum for another that I need to try as well. Beeline GPS does have a setting to do this for static navigation which I did, but did not seem to help. But I do need to try it again. The jumpiness makes the final cache search impossible because the readings are off as well as screen directions.

I find it hard to believe that my older sirfIII CF gps does not have any jump what so ever with beeline with any gps fix condition. I guess that's what I get for wanting to update my setup with my ipaq.

I will be sticking with my axim and CF gps in the meantime for caching. If I resolve thgis, I will also update the post.
