Smart phone and GPS questions

My Dell Axim X51 and old cellphone both crashed within a couple weeks of each other. I decide to try a converged device and settled on the Samsung Jack which runs Windows Mobile 6.1 standard (not touch screen). I am on the ATT network but do not have the data plan.

I have a few questions particularily about how 6.1 works with GPS. The Jack has a built-in GPS and I have a separate bluettooth GPS receiver (an Oncourse Navigator BT 338) which I used with the Axim.

Is there any off-road GPS mapping software that can work on the Jack? Will the built-in GPS work with non-ATT software or is it locked to ATT's GPS software. If the built-in GPS cannot work with other software can my bluetooth receiver still be used?
I would like software that does not require the use of a data plan. I would perfer software that will use topographic maps of the US and have the ability for waypoint and track management.

Any information you all have will be appreciated. This includes corrections of assumptions I have about how all this works

The GPS radio in your Samsung Jack will work with any windows mobile (standard) compatible GPS software and is not limited or locked to AT&T products. Of course, you'll want to avoid applications like Google Maps since it relies on a data connection for mapping information.

All you really need to do is search through GPS software options, making sure that the non-touchscreen is supported (there is not such a large selection of GPS software that works on non-touchscreen devices). I have used GPS software on my IPAQ hw6925, which is an AT&T branded windows mobile professional device (w/touchscreen), but have not yet looked around for non-touchscreen GPS software for my windows mobile standard device (an IPAQ Voice Messenger) and probably won't since I subscribe to data and Google Maps works fine for me on that device. If I want to use my driving navigation software, I'll use it on my older windows mobile professional device (an IPAQ hw6925).

Thanks Julie. You recommended something with 6.1 Professional but I did not like the price. It seems Windows mobile 6.1 standard does meet my needs except for the GPS mapping software. Hopefully something will show up.
Thanks again for your expert advice.

why get a Black Jack that doesn't even have a touch screen. Seem to be a waste if you ask me. TomTom & Copilot will not work on non-touch screen devices. Without a data plan you will be stuck paying $10 a month for AT&T's GPS service. However this is cheaper that a data plan. You should have bought the Fuze.

BTW, there are rumors that AT&T is going to start requiring a data plan with all smartphones.
