Yeah, you need the hardware (303E in my case), and the software (Mapoplis in my case). Decent software will be around $80-$90, and great software will cost about the same as the reciever. Those are really all you need for it.

vsmvsm,

You get GPS on your PDA because it is cheaper than getting a comparable standalone unit for your car.

If you are looking into this, then I suggest that you go with a bundle. The bundles typically come with the mapping software, a car mount, a car charger, and a receiver GPS.

I got my bundle for approximately $260 at buygpsnow.com. I'm sure you can get a cheaper setup because the price of the receivers has went down, and I think that the software is also down by $10. Expect to spend $200 to $300 depending on your needs.

Oh, a comparable system starts around $500, and it can get in the thousands.

If you are tired of getting lost or just like knowing exactly where you are going then I recommend that you look into getting GPS.

My recommendation is below:

There is also a 10% discount.

Good luck,

Just one thing to check before buying any GPS software, verify that it will work with your computer's OS. I like PocketMap Navigator because it tells you the name of the street or exit number to take.

vsmvsm,

Hector Gonzalez does have a valid point that I would like to reiterate. Find out what is best for you if you decide to get a GPS unit. The software is the part that varies, but the receiver that I recommended is pretty universal.

A couple downsides to Mapopolis are:
1. Doesn't work on your PC/laptop.
2. Doesn't pronounce the name of the streets. It displays them in text only.
3. Not the prettiest interface, but it is very functional.

There are a few other differences, but these are probably the most noticeable.

I suggest you think about what you want in a systems and then read the reviews. They will all get you where you want to go, but they vary in how they do it.

Again, good luck.
