Routis really slow start

After reading everyone's comments on Routis vs. Mapopolis, I went for Routis. I finally got the software and GPS receiver (using a compact flash). The only problem is that it take a couple of minutes for Routis to navigate to any destination when I start out. Once it gets going, it's great with recalculating a route when I go off course. But trying to navigate to anywhere initially is a killer. I'm half way down the road before it figures out which way to go.

Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know of a fix? I hate sitting in my car waiting for it to figure out which direction I need to go. Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Is your car cursor red when you initially start out? If so that means that Routis doesn't have satellite lock. Go to the GPS Info section is Routis and try to run the utility that verifies GPS reception. Also make sure your GPS receiver has a clear view of the sky.

I recently puchased Routis and a Haicomm 303MMF for my Axim X5 Advanced and it really works well.

Good Luck.

When the GPS starts it will take a few seconds to lock up. Typically a "warm" start, where the GPS knows within reason where it is and what satellites are available, should be in the 30-40 second range. If you move during that time, the GPS has to keep starting all over because the data keeps changing. I've seen it take 20-30 minutes to get a fix if you are constantly moving. So, the routine to follow is to get the GPS powered up, then start your car, buckle up and adjust mirrors, seat, etc. In 30+ seconds the GPS should have a lock and you are good to go.

I've noticed the same problem since upgrading to Routis 2004. It does not involve GPS lock, the software takes several minutes to come up with a route. For example, I was in L.A. last week and rented a car. I popped in the GPS CF, fired up the Axim and waited for a GPS lock. It took only a minute or so to lock. The map displayed my current location without a problem. I had pre-entered my destination in "Favorites". I selected "Destination", then "Favorites" and clicked on the "Nav" button. It took approx. 5 minutes to come up with the route which was 90% Highway driving. This appears to be MUCH longer than with Routis 2003.

Any other users experiencing something similar?
