What is wrong with Ostia gps software?

I noticed in many posts that people liked the Pharos gps but not the ostia software it comes with. What is the problem with the software? It seems to do everything Mapolis does. Could someone tell me the differences?

Thank

I agree with jackhead. It works fine for my use in rental cars in strange cities.

I think the software is really not to easy to use. It also does not, in my experience, find addresses very well. I'm very sorry I spent the $$ on it. What a waste.

I use it all the time and like it has already been said "inputting the address", if it is not in your contact list is a little strange and could be improved.

I had the Ostia but had a system crash and can't seem to find the setup file on the Pocket PC Navigator CD. If I've got to buy new software I'd like to try Mapolis if it will work with the Pharos GPS ('course I'd like to re-install Ostia if it will cost me nuthin!!!)

If you registered the software with Pharos you can download the new version of the software and any maps you need.

Even though you purchased on eBay, as I also did, on the back of the cover of the disk is registration information (same on all cds). You use this to create a login at pharosgps.com and you can then download the new version and maps.

If you are not seeing street level map detail, than you are simply not loading the local maps. You can have multiple maps loaded into memory and you should load the highway maps for your area, plus the local cities you want street level detail for. It is recommended that you have not more than 3 or 4 maps in memory at one time. Your software should have included multiple cds (I believe it was four) with maps for the entire country.

Though I bought in ebay, they sent me the password and login for 24 hours to down load.

I was in the office for first 9 hours and then.... before I download all maps the login expired.

Now I am stuck with it....

Is there any way u can help me ?

what i need is usstreetmaps version 4.0 to download.

Thanks once again

My first impression is very good. I received the Pharos Pocket GPS Navigator and Ostia map software. I read the manual last night and did a flawless installation this morning in a matter of minutes. After doing the installation and selecting the area I wanted off the Map CD I downloaded it to a 64mb Sandisk SD card with no problems. After the load I took the X3I to my SUV and installed the holder that came with the GPS Kit. Plugged it all in and in a matter a seconds was up and running with the red arrow showing where I was. I drove around for about an hour on all types of streets and it worked great. I showed the exact location I was at during the whole test drive.

My impression is it was worth the purchase. I will be taking a short trip this weekend and will try it our on a rout.

I am very happy with my purchase.
