Looking for a review of latest version
I want to put in an order next week and am sitting on the fence between PMN and Routis. I've been shuttling between GPSPassion, Aximsite, and plain old Google searches looking for reviews of your latest version. Do you know of any reviews in the works? Also, how current is your map data?

I have been using 2.21 for a few weeks, I am looking foward to my new version of 2004 (it will be here on Thursday). I will try to comare the 2. I have already found a few bugs (old exit numbers on major roads in Atlanta and not enough correct street addresses in many Massachusetts cities) and a few lockups, but nothing terrible.
It was a good value and has been fun to play with....now I can have the 3D!
I like the POI, but they need to be searchable. In the old version, if you tried to fing Atlanta's Hartsville airport, you needed to know what county (Atlanta is in 7 counties). It was tough to find without just using the GPS.
I also am looking forward to the new destinations section.
Glad to see that Pocket Map is on Aximsite...the best source for Axim info.

I've written a review of R3. It should be published here within a week or so. Sneak preview---It's really sweet!

Comment on PMN review
Your review was posted today. It sounds like a great application and now that's led to some increased confusion for me. Both PMN and Routis sound great. Routis has Canada maps, seems to have a strong following from the reviews and comments I've read here and on GPS Passion, seems to be very stable, has good support, and uses Navtech maps. PMN seems to have a "sexier" feature set, a richer POI set, good support, and uses TeleAtlas maps. I don't need a GPS for everyday use, just for vacations and college tours (mostly in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states). I realize that I could purchase another package inexpensively if I wasn't happy with my initial choice. It sounds like I can't go wrong with either choice. Would you concur?

Your analysis is right on. If you view your first package as the "learner" suite, then anything you don't like becomes an important factor in buying your "final" version. Basically you will need to buy a new package periodically just to get updated maps because of road construction, so don't view GPS packages as a "once for all time" investment. Look at it more as an annual "maintenance" program that needs to be updated/replaced on a regular schedule.

Annual Updates
I've enjoyed the information posted to this site, and thought the review of Pocketmap jsut about a deal-maker. Could you discuss in more detail the update process? It sounded like we needed to by each year's version.
Thanks - Pat.

I'd like to ask JakeRich a few questions to clarify things:
What information is displayed for POIs ?
Does it show the phone numbers?
How well does the POI search work?
How about contact addresses?
Are the hardware buttons customizable and if not what are the defaults?
How well would it work for ad-hock navigation without a route (kind of like an electronic map)?
Thanks. Sounds like a great product.

POI's covered by Rocketeer
Contact addresses are linked. You enter the name of the contact, the system searches for the name (very fast) and then presents you with the three choices of Home, Business or Other address. You can tap Locate to find it or Go to navigate from where you are to that location.
Buttons are NOT customizable, only on/off. The defaults vary by screen, so it's not practical to list them all. Most of them seem to be logical. I found out what they did by pressing them.
It's fine as an electronic map. With the GPS it tracks along with where you are as you move.

If it's used in this mode how many street names are visible and at what zoom level? Is it customizable (detail level) ?
Thanks!

Detail level is not customizable. As you zoom out fewer street names are shown.
