Hmm AXIM X5 + TomTom 2 + Wired GPS + Carkit Bundle

Hi,

I'm having problems that my Axim does not recognize the supplied GPS receiver (Wired GPS navigator on COM1) in the TomTom AXIM Carkit bundle...

I get no support for TomTom nor can I find something about it at Dell support...
I only read about problems with the wireless GPS navigator...

Any1 here?

Thank you,
Marc Nieuwhof

Marc,
I own an Axim5 with a wired GPS and TomTom2. I would like to know the following. If you go to start, settings and then select the tabsheet system. There you should see the Icon GPS. Then you click on it and go to the second tabsheet called "GPS". On this screen you should see in the first pull down list the name of your GPS mouse. In the second you see "Serial cable on COM1:". Be sure that selection box is turned on. Then put your system into the car kit and go to your GPS status and look if you have connection. Mine is working fine.

It was my cradle...
I could test it with another one... that one worked fine!
I now have a new cradle so it's all ok for me now...

Thanx,

Help,
I just bought a BTC SOVA 2200 mouse GPS receiver for my X5 from semsons.com (those guys are great).
It is simply sending me crazy. The CD that come int the GPS box contains 2 pdf file that are ureadeable and the only s/w for PDA seems to be the one foa a Toshiba. Most of all, when I plug in the adapter with the mouse receiver my Axim becomes deadly slow.
Any1 any idea?... pelase!!!

You don't need the CD. To use a serial receiver, you MUST follow the following steps:

With the GPS receiver disconnected from the Axim:

1. On the Axim, start the software that will be using the GPS.
2. Get it looking for Com1, 4800 baud. (No autoseek, no other port, just COM1, 4800 baud).
3. Start the GPS receiver (typically that means plug it in to the power supply. If that is integrated with the Axim connector, you can plug into the Axim now.
4. If you haven't already done so to get power, connect the cable to the bottom port of the Axim.

The reason your axim is slow is that Activesync is seeing data on the port and thinks that you want to sync, so it fires off a signal saying the Ax has arrived, but gets nothing back from the missing PC, so it tries again, and again, and again...

The process above will block the port so that Activesync never sees the GPS data.
