GPS Not Found error: Please help!!!

Hi guys!

I have a BC307 GlobalSat GPS and it has been working great for the past few months that I have had it. Just this weekend I was going to go on a road trip to Buffalo and so I thought it would be perfect to take it on the road with my and my Axim. I also decided to plug in the extended antenna, but as soon as I did that, both my GPS programs, could not detect it anymore.

Resetting the Axim didn't work. unplugging and plugging back the GPS didn't work. Now it constantly gives me the "GPS not found error. Arrrg!! I just don't get it. Please help!

I had mine do the same thing, while on vacation in Florida over the past two weeks. I tried setting the COM port and Baud rate to Auto but it would just cycle through the values and still not detect the GPS. I gave up on it for a day and tried again later. This time I was successful in making a connection. Try doing a soft reset and setting your program to COM 5 and 4800 baud if it isn't already.

There are other threads on recent GPS disruptions that may or may not be related.

The feds were doing something to mess up the gps satellites that started from January 22 and was supposed to go through March 1st, but I think it was over early. I've got two cf units, the only one that could fix was my fortuna dual mode in xt mode, the ST mode on that one and my holux gm270 didn't work at all. I wasn't having a problems with the unit being found but it couldn't get or keep a fix at all. You can find NOTAM advisories about gps disruptions on the FAA site (just google FAA notam's you'll go right to the page). You need your local airport three letter identifier or you can also go to a different link that will bring up all gps NOTAM advisories. The two I found in Florida were Jacksonville and Miami so that pretty much covered the whole state. Drove me nuts too.
