GPS Configuration

Looking for the most optimal GPS settings.

My Hicom 303E is connecting via Com5 and the advanced settings are as follows:

Baud = 4800
Data Bits = 8
Parity = None
Stop Bits = 1

Has anyone used different settings with better connectivity / response rate?

Cheers...

There is no reason to change the settings. The GPS sends the NMEA sentences at 1/sec, with each sentence running about 70 characters. Typically there are 3-4 types of sentences sent, depending on the unit, so that makes about 300 characters of data that needs to be transmitted. At 4800 baud those 300 characters take about .5 seconds, so you have plenty of time to get them transmitted.

Increasing the speed above 4800 will not result in a faster response rate because the receivers only transmit 1 sentence/second for each sentence type, regardless of baud rate.

Hope that helps.
