A few Questions from a new GPS user...

I just got HI-303, Mapopolis and a Seidio mount.

1) Do I have to worry about the vent breaking if mounted for long periods of time? The vent does bend with the mount attached.

2) If I use the window mount, do I have to worry about the suction coming un done?

3) Should I worry about the GPS and heat? I was using the window mount and the GPS got very warm while in the sun.

Any other insights will be most welcoming.

1. Some people have reported problems with the vent mount breaking the slats on the vent, but not very many (I think more people have broken the slats trying to remove the vent mount, which can be tricky). On the other hand, some people have complained that the PDA blocks the airflow from the vent, especially in warmer climates where A/C is important. This is why I've switched from a vent mount to a windshield mount (as well as the fact that you have a lot more flexibility in placement with a windshield mount).

2. Generally speaking, the newer suction mounts seem to be pretty good. I've had one on my window now for several months and it shows no signs of coming off by itself. Just make sure that you follow the instructions and clean the windshield area well before attaching the suction cup.

3. I've not heard of anyone reporting problems with the PDA overheating, but just to be safe I make sure that I don't leave my Axim in the mount when I'm not in the car (I don't want to invite theft, either :D ).
