A dumb question

i am totally new to GPS, so please excuse my ignorance. i am now thinking of buying a bluetooth GPS unit to use with my X30. looks like the Belkin GPS is what I want. my question is, do i need to make any monthly fee to use the GPS? anything other than what I pay for the GPS unit? Thanks for your patience.

The signal that you receive from GPS is free. Basically, the US Government has a constellation of about 24 satellites (plus or minus) circling the earth. These satellites are broadcasting an identification signal that your GPS receiver uses. A GPS receiver needs at minimum 3 separate satellites to triangulate your position. If you're interested, here is the official Air Force fact sheet on the NAVSTAR GPS

Hope this helps...
