Seido Question...

I wasn't exactly sure of where to put this question, but since it had to do with the Seido mount, I figured i'd put it in the GPS. One question for anyone who might have one, or may be able to test it in someway. I noticed that the recieve jack for the GPS is RJ-11. That is the same as a phone jack, correct? so, could you use the mount as a cheap way to connect to the internet? In a hotel, you could take the phone jack out of the phone and plug it into the mount and connect, right? It's the connector that fits, I was just wondering it that may connect to the internet that way?

I haven't tried it, but I seriously doubt it would work. Just because the jack is RJ-11-like, it doesn't mean it is wired the same, or that it supports both TX and RX signals. Also, at least one wire is power for the GPS receiver, which is definitely NOT expected or wanted by the phone company. Finally, one of the lines on the telephone is for ring tones, which, I believe is a pretty high voltage and may damage the mount (It's definitely NOT expecting that kind of input!)

That RJ-11 jack is just for serial (RS232) communications. You might be able to connect a modem to it, provided you had the drivers.

Exclamation don't try it!

The RJ-11 connector is the same but NOT the wiring. You'll most likely damage the unit. The connector was used to avoid a costly propriety connector design. The used existing industry connectors to manufacture the device but we have no idea how they wired it.
