Tested Haicom MMF with Lots of SW

I ordered the Haicom MMF from BuyGPSNow.com. I installed the 30 trail of Destinator 3. It's ok. I got the gps so that when my wife and kids go on a trip they dont get lost, like on the last trip! So I need something that is easy to use. The way I rated the software was by ease of use right out of the box, as in not reading any directions and just using the software. Destinator was ok, but in creating a route it took SOOOO long. I think there is a fix for this and I am currently downloading the update which is ummm 1 gigabyte. Destinator was alright to use but in my opinion not the greatest.
I used Mapopolis as well. For in city it was a pretty nice application. Easy to use. Although I kept trying to find the way to place my speed on the screen and cant seem to find out how to do this. Also I wanted to see the map and the directions on the screen and the directions are on a white window which is on top of the lower half portion of the map. So I lost half of the map. Also the sound quality is very very poor. Could not make out what it was saying and right and left commands sound the same.
I also tried Routis 2004. By far the best application I have used. Totally the easiest out of the box. Quick routing, big buttons to tap on while driving, as you approach your next turn or exit it zooms in on the map, then after you take it zooms back out. As you approach an exit a progress bar appears to the right and shows how close you are to the exit as your approaching it. Also the night map feature comes on automatically when its night out. It does this by time, I assume, and its great. This was actually a sign to me that they really worked on this application. I know its insignificant but, tell my wife that she should manually put it on a night map and she would be there for hours figuring it out. So the way they planned everything out is great. Like with the progress bar approaching an exit, Mapopolis takes up half the screen showing feet untill next exit. Routis only displays this as you approach it so you see the map as your driving. I honestly did not have to do anything else to this app after installing it. No modifications to the settings whatsoever. Gets addresses from contacts easily, routes quickly, and doesnt take a whole year to install on the computer and ppc. Some of you out there might have more experience with other software and know how to adjust certain settings to fix certain things but, for out of the box ease of use with no messing around plus good maps and loud clear directions, big buttons, and good POI's (new bank near me was on the map) Routis 2004 wins hands down out of Mapopolis and Destinator. I have yet to try Pocketmap and TomTom 3 but will and will update. Oh, Haicom MMF works great!

You can adjust the size of the Mapopolis directions box to be either large (like you have) or small (about half that size) or not there at all.

The voice in Mapopolis works better in PDAs with reasonable bass response in the speakers. Dell's speaker has almost no bass response. With a Seidio powered mount, the voice is very understandable through it's speaker. You can also program the buttons in Mapopolis to whatever you want. I have mine programed for Zoom In, Zoom Out, Day/Night and Nave Pane Big/Small. With just button pushes I can make all the changes you mentioned.

I've reviewed Routis and used Mapopolis and it's a very close call between them. Both have advantages and disadvantages that keeps me on the fence.
