No cable available. Rumors abound about Dell, Gomadic, SupplyNet and others working on a serial cable for the Axim. In the meantime, if you get desperate, you could get a Socket I/O card. $$$
I got the combo cable set for the axim - which includes the car charger and the axim-to-etrex cable. They work great! and are very compact and cost effective.
PC-Mobile (http://www.pc-mobile.net/gps.htm) lists a cable (their code is GEAX5, $29.40 + shipping) that is supposed to connect the eTrex series to the Axim. JakeRich, is there some reason why this cable wouldn't work?
I've been waiting a couple of months for TheSupplyNet to start selling the Axim to eTrex serial cable. They've delayed the sell date a couple of times, now. This cable is supposed to power both the Axim and the eTrex from a cigarette lighter outlet.
In the meantime, I've found out that Semsons.com sells an Axim eTrex cable and a separate high power car adaptor.
Looks to me like the Semsons cable might be better:
1. The Semsons combo is about is about $20 cheaper including shipping.
2. TheSupplyNet cable charges both the Axim and the eTrex, but it charges through the adaptor cable I think. I expect that there's not enough juice to adequately power both the eTrex and the Axim. The power cable provided by Semsons has the same amp output as the AC cable.
Also, GeorgeCo which sells through Amazon, is supposed to start offering a serial cable soon, but I don't know any details about it. GeorgeCo usually provides good cables at a low price.
As far as the suggestion to sell the eTrex and buy a CF GPS card, I doubt that the GPS cards have the reception and features of an eTrex. The eTrex also accepts Garmin software which is better than the software I've seen for Pocket PC.

I am new to the Axim (hopefully it arrives today) and I am interested in using my eTrex Vista with my Axim. My question is what software do I have to use to display on my Axim when using my eTrex?
You can use any Pocket PC software that can read NMEA sequences from a GPS receiver. The ones I know about are Pocket Streets (comes with Microsoft Streets & Trips and Microsoft Autoroute), Oziexplorer, Tom Tom Navigator.
Seidio offers a GPS adaptor cable which allows you to plug your eTrex to Seidio X3 G2500 mount for charging and connecting X3. The cable connects the eTrex and G2500 mount through the RJ-11 on G2500.
