This is relatively minor. The Up key is for zoom in and down key for zoom out. But imagine you are looking on a map (phyiscal map on a piece of paper), if you move your head down closer to the map, you see more detail and less area of the map, that's a zoom in. Vice verse, if you move your head away from the map, that's like the Up bottom, you see more area of the map. So that's a zoom out.

I also use TomTom Navigator. Their zoom in out logic is like this which makes more sense to me.
