Just to find out Chicago is in which county, i spent over 15 minutes...
Does anyone know a database where we can input the CITY, STATE or ZIPCODE and it can return the COUNTY to us?
Why wouldn't Mapopolis include CITY maps in addition to Counties... I know it would be too much but they could still group cities..

As in Cook County Hospital, Chicago...Harrison Ford, as Dr. Richard Kimble, in the Fugitive and ER, every Thursday night on NBC.
:)
I assume these are on the fly questions, so here are two on the fly options:
First option, if you have all of the maps on your data card, is to load the state major roads file. Then move to the area of the city, click on the little star icon and click open map.
Well another thing it is killing me with is that now it also shows sea as land..
Like the hudson river and east river, it is not blue..
is that a bug?
I didn't want to start a new subject for that. Has anyone else had this?

You can find the county with Mapopolis. After you log in, select download maps - Pocket PC PDA. Then in the top box for the U.S., select the state you want and then type in the city in the box named "Place" and click on the "Search for place" button.
You'll then get what you need! :approve:
Mapopolis is a great product that I always use when traveling.

Still, you know the counties in your home area, but when you're travelling, you have no idea what the county names are. For travelling software, it's kind of a stupid way to work, especially in areas where there are a lot of small counties.
I was talking about while using it.. Which is not that easy, as there is no way to find county/city pair while using it..

Frankenbike - you can find the county by typing in any city within the county using the steps I mentioned above. It really is very simple.
When you're out in the middle of nowhere, and you're improvising on your trip, and there's no WiFi available, or digital net service (assuming you have the right phone and cable or BT), how on earth are you going to do that?
The whole idea of having a lot of maps with you is to have the equivalent of a road atlas.
Requiring people to log online to find the name of a county in an area they're unfamiliar with to use a map is a stupid way to organize mapping software, unless it has a built in "find county" function. How hard would that be to put in the software?
Mapopolis offers a fairly simple way of determining which county maps you need "on the fly".
Load the "major roads" map for the state in question (don't load any county maps at this point). You will notice two kinds of markers on the map: plain circles, which indicate cities and towns; and circles with a spiky ring around them. These "spiky circles" represent counties; touch the spiky circle and the county name will come up.
Then, tap and hold the county name and a dialog box will open. One of the options in the dialog box is "Open Map", which will load the appropriate county map (assuming that it's already on your handheld).
While this system isn't perfect -- it can be difficult sometimes to locate the correct "spiky circle" -- it generally works pretty well, especially if you don't have access to the web to do a google or query Mapopolis' own site.
tg., do you know any of fixing the "mess up" issue? Please load NYC maps of Manhattan, Brookly, Queens, Bronx, and NJ maps of Hudson & Bergen counties, and please check around Manhattan island for the disformed hudson and east river as well as the atlantic ocean were they look as it they were land and the islands were Sea, and regular land is normal.
I checked, there are no problems with color, i guess it is some bug.
I use the latest version of Mapopolis, and installed the latest maps.
I will use my controller and try to get a s/c for you.

This problem with the coloring of the Atlantic Ocean (and maybe the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico, for all I know) in Mapopolis has been around for a while. I don't have the NY maps to look at, but for the coastal counties in North Carolina the Atlantic is "blue" for what looks like a mile or two offshore, then the color reverts back to the "land" color. Maybe Mapopolis doesn't expect us to drive offshore? :rolling:
Here is the previously mentioned, ever useful "Open Map" for county. Works like a charm. :)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Here is Long Island, NY. Notice how sea just disappears after a point. OK, That could be normal, but if you look closely you will see the bay right beneath the airports, and there is actually a shore distant from where island ends, to the south. There should still be some sea after the off-shore small long island.
This is one of the biggest bugs, notice how Battery Tunnel seems to be under a land, instead of East River. Notice the north of the tunnel. On this map Manhattan island is not like an island at all. In reality it should be surrounded by water, instead, on this picture, it seems there is no east river, but only the hudson river, which is to the west, and still half of it is not blue as it should be. Manhattan island ends with West Side drive/hwy.
This image will demonstare it much better. Notice the BLUE blob right near the tunnel. This blue place is actually an Island, so the colors & indications are reversed. Same thing for Roosevelt Island, the Blue Long Line which is east of FDR.
Another look at Long Island.
Why is it that bad?
I know they do not assume we will drive off to the sea, but last week I was on a cruise and it showed me in the middle of the East River, but not on the sea. (Stick to the Road is not checked) It showed on the land, because the coloring was not blue, location was correct.
Mapopolis should look at this subject.
