Question Teletype or Mapopolis??

I see a lot of good things about Mapopolis but have not seen anyone using the Teletype software. It looks good in the description, don't they all, and I like that you get both PC and PPC versions.

Anyone know the difference between the quality/accuracy of TeleAtlas(Teletype) and NavTech(Mapopolis) maps?

I'm going to get the Holux GM-270 CF GPS, I just need to decide on the software.

I have the Ax5 Advanced.

Thanks,
Warren

I have an evaluation copy of teletype and am working on a review of it for the board here. I hope to complete that this weekend.

My first impression is that it has nice displays, works well with the CF Card receiver and external GPS units as well. The redraw is slower than Mapopolis (Mapopolis is blindingly fast, so everything else is slow in comparision!) It supports both waypoints and "avoid" points, which Mapopolis does not do. Map accuracy seems to be better with Mapopolis, at least in my area (Northern Virginia). There is a particular intersection that was redone about 18 months ago that Mapopolis has correctly done but Teletype is still the old configuration.

Stay tuned for the full review.

Teletype review

Jake maybe you could say something in your review about the gps location update rate.

Teletype says that they update something like every second or so and that some others only update every 15 seconds. I'm not sure how often Mapopolis updates.

Thanks,
Warren

It appears to upate each second, as does Mapopolis. I will mention it in the review, thanks!

I don't know about Teletype, but I do know that if you find problems with the NavTech maps you can fill out a form at their website and update their database.

For instance, using the Mapopolis maps, my address wasn't listed.(I live in the boonies anyway so I wasn't surprised.) Maps.yahoo.com, which uses Navtech maps does have my info. I print screened the image and sent it to NavTech along with a description. Now all I have to do is wait for an update to the Mapopolis maps at a later date.

I think having the capability to help fix address and other problems is a great thing. Their is actually several other things I've noticed I need to send to NavTech.
