Arrow A little help for you. Axim with Garmin II+ GPS

Here is my GPS PAGE I made.

I really wanted to clean it up more but I just re-arranged a few items. Maybe soon I will but now that my yard isn't a quicksand-mailman-catcher anymore, I can mow it.

Plus my wife says I have to. I like to think it is my choice still.

Thanks

Just ordered the parts and going to see if can get it to work. I do not require voice or anything like that. Just want to be able to have a map that moves.

I use my GPS III+ all the time. It should not be hard to hide all the cables and power adapters. Not I just have to find a place to mount the GPS.

Regards

gordy

Yeah, due to the know fact the Axim speaker is about as loud as a mouse having his tail slammed in a door, vocal prompting is pretty useless. Plus I like my radio up anyways....

I used some zip ties for the power cable and serial cable. It makes it a little neater. That and velcro staps for the remaining 'extra' cabling.

Someone had a nice entry for the Garmin GPS via serial issue. The etrex has a weird DB9 setup and thus takes some pin swapping that required home made/modified parts. I am going to add that in the page for him.

Have fun!

Ok i just got the parts needed. But I am inside work and do not have GPS signal of course. The Radio Shack Null Modem adapter 26-264B has a digram of the pin layout on back. The layout is exaclty like the one stated on your website.

I will give it a shot here in a few and report back

If you have a stand alone unit. Put it in simulation mode. It will report back the LAT/LON of the point you set. Just for troubleshooting :D

Check the settings and the output of the GPS is NMEA at 4800 baud. Make sure ActiveSync is turned off.

Start the GPS software first, let it start looking for the signals and THEN plug in the cable from the II+.
