Lowrance Airmap100 GPS connections

I have the Lowrance Airmap100 Aviation GPS, AXIM 400mhz, Mapopolis w/GPS support, RS gender changer, RS null modem, Dell serial cable, Airmap serial cable. I've attempted to get them to talk to each other using various power up's, connection changes etc, but no dice. The AXIM does't seem to recognize the fact that a serial cable is attached. It sync's fine via the cradle. I believe that the Airmap is using the NMEA standard. Any suggestions??

Start with the Lowrance running, and all cabled up but NOT connected to the Ax. Now start mapopolis and go to the GPS screen. Start the search for the GPS, and then plug in the cable. Do that sequence in that order, search first, then cable. That way the Mapopolis software captures the serial port before the Axim does anything else (like wake up Activesync). Also, make sure the lowrance is at 4800 baud, NMEA.

If that doesn't work, try the GPSViewer from Semsons (Holux). It's free and it will let you see the NMEA statements as they come in.
