X50 com setting(s)

I am testing an X50 with an attached Holux GM-270. I've noticed the only available com port is com4. On my X5, I've been using the com5 setting. Most of the GPS software I am using accepts multiple com settings. However, one program I am using is specifically looking for com5. On the X50, is it possible to re-assign the com4 setting to com5? Can the registry be hacked using PHM registry editor? I've tried GPSgate...but with little success. Not sure about WM 2003 SE????

Most applications will let you change the port assignments. Can you share with us the app that is specifically looking for COM5? Is there no way to make it change to COM4?

Can't see why GPSGate does not work if you set it to COM4 to receive the GPS signal with a virtual port of 5 to pass it to the software, unless it won't allow a virtual port 5. It sounds like some other problem. It's not always intuitive as to what refers to receiving and what refers to sending so double check your settings. Also check matching BAUD rates and NMEA or SIRF settings. Sometimes they keep resetting to defaults other than the common NMEA/4800.

Yes, the application is called FieldWorker. It is a data/GPS logger we use in the field. The application allows us to configure a given com setting. The com setting for the X5 is com5. However, the com setting for the X50 is com4. It is tough to deploy units with multiple com settings. That is why I was curious if we could modify the com setting within the X50.

Thanks for your input!

Good point. I was able to get GPSgate running on my X5. This was a good first step. I will try with the X50 and see what happens.

Thanks for your input
