Measuring acceleration with GPS

Hi.
I'm looking for a program to my Axim X5 which can measure the acceleration of my car.
I've found programs who measure velocity and other things, but no acceleration.

I assume it's possible with the right software, am I wrong?

No, it's probably not possible with any accuracy. The resolution of GPS is on the order of 12-15M. Even with WAAS, it's still 3-5M. To get acceleration data you would need the distance travelled each second. Given the resolution of the GPS, that distance could be off as much as 30 M from second-to-second. In addition, the error may not be along the path of travel, but anywhere in a circular pattern, so the error could be from 0 to plus/minus 30M each second. Unless you have a rocket car, that error rate will probably exceed the actual acceleration rate.

Sorry about that.
