Some interesting mounts and good tips on self-made mounts.
I like the looks of the ProClip and the external speaker on the Arkon.
Any ideas on a mount switchable from vehicle to vehicle?
I thought about the Arkon vent mount and then using a "shim" if the vent won't hold it in place. Would be nice if ProClip made a holder that would switch from mount to mount. I could then use an earbud for better sound quality.
Thanks. in advance, for your thoughts.

Are there any BM stores that sell the arkon mounts? I'd like to look at these before I buy one. At this point, I'm considering the cm527 or the cup holder mount.

I also tried a cup holder mount from Arkon, but it was too low to see comfortably. So next I went with a vent clip from Arkon, but used the PDA holder that I had gotten earlier from Arkon. The new side gripper has big "ears" on the sides that grip the PPC, and to my eye it looks like they would press on the side buttons on the Axim. The one I have holds the Ax from the top and bottom, and is adjustable so that I can get the CF slot and bottom connectors both free but hold the unit at the same time. I don't know if Arkon makes that older type anymore. I think it was a CM223 I ordered orignally, and then just the vent mount clip by itself. According to the website, the CM223 is being phased out. It's very solid, and the little foot brace on the vent bracket keeps the vent from turning down.
PS. I still use the iHolster/vent clip combination when I travel. It let's me set up the Axim as a GPS in any rental car I get when on the road. Slick!

For that reason I don't think that the windshield sucktion cup holders would work very well, but let me know if I am mistaken.
Thanks!

I personally like RAM products, heavy duty stuff. Gpscity.com carries these, the neat part is the parts are all interchangeable so if something breaks or needs updating you just buy the one part. I live in Florida and use the windshield suction cup mount--it's never fallen down once even in the ridiculous heat and humidity down here. I can't speak for offroad stuff but I've hit some pretty substantial potholes :p and it didn't fall down! I started out with a 60.00 setup for my old maestro, when I got the axim the cradle didn't fit but it only cost me 20.00 for a different cradle. If you wanted a motorcycle mount later you'd just buy the mount and the existing arm and the cradle would connect to the new mount. I really like this product line.

I made up my own bracket using a large paper clip (the type with foldable metal handles, crocodile type), Bent the handles so they lay in-line with the back of the clip. Then secured boths sides together with self adhesive velco so the metal handles are sandwich in between. Attached a piece of velco to the back of the Axim (which still allows it to fit in the cradle when required). The clip then fits over an air vent slot. Can send interested parties pics of it. Approx cost $3.00 and time to make about 5 mins.
Very secure.

Go here, and scroll down a little to see the mount with the alligator clip vent holder. Also check on their Parts page for other clip parts.

This is a picture of my Dell with a Proclip mount. If you have problems from there website you can go to www.pocketnav.com we are a proclip reseller as well.
These really are great mounts and make for a neat installation.
