AVL itrek BT 15 GPS and Tom Tom Navigator Problem

Hi guys,

a while ago I got myself an AVL / itrek BT-15 GPS and Tom Tom Navigator 3.07 for my Axim X50v. When I initially installed everthing it worked fine and I was very happy.

Then, after a longer period without using the GPS and upgrading my X50v to the new ROM Version A02 (01060500) Tom Tom Navigator no longer recognizes my GPS

I have no problem connecting to the GPS in the Bluetooth Manager and when I start the Tom Tom GPS application I can also see that data is constantly received from the GPS on the status page in the BT Manager - but Tom Tom GPS refuses to see that data, i.e. the little black dot is not moving between the radar dish and the PDA symbol in Tom Tom GPS.

I tried many things (switching the GPS settings in Tom Tom GPS to all possible combinations, using older Tom Tom GPS versions, and even a hard reset followed by a new installation of just the Tom Tom software) but nothing helped...

Here are the detailed settings/version I use:

Dell Axim X50v with ROM A02 (01060500)
Tom Tom Navigator 3.07
Tom Tom GPS 3.07 417/421
GPS Setting NMEA 0183v2 Bluetooth on Bluetooth Serial Port COM7

I'm pretty sure I was using the same versions/settings before the ROM upgrade to A02.

Has anybody out there an idea on what I might do wrong?

Thanks a lot,
Kyc

I just purchased an AVL-BT GPS device last week and have been trying for several days to get it to work with my X30 with A05 ROM.

After much trouble, I was able to connect for about 30 seconds and even switched over to map mode and watched my progress down the route I was travelling. But that was the end of my success. The GPS device stopped sending me satellite information even though the bluetooth connection was still stable. The bluetooth connection was lost about 6 minutes later.

I have never been able to repeat this short success even though I tried exactly the same settings as well as reasonable varations repeatedly. Joe Kee at GPSnow is having me send my unit in to see if it is defective. I will keep you posted, but based on the details from another post, the X30 at least should work with this device even with ROM update A05. Based on your experience, I am beginning to wonder if these AVL units will turn out to be relatively unreliable over time. Let us hope not.

After receiving a replacement unit, I have nothing but good things to say about this GPS unit in combination with OnCourse software. I highly recommend both.
