Pharos GPS and Ostia Navigation from Dell

First, another big thanks to fibrizio for the .avi conversion instructions.

I'm wanting to use GPS with my new Ax, but have never used GPS before. After seeing the many various combinations of hardware and software available, I'm wondering what opinions that people here have of the Pocket GPS Portable Navigator system from Pharos and the Ostia 2003 navigation software available through Dell. Today's price for the combination hardware and software was only $219.56, with free shipping, which seems to be a good deal. I just don't know whether this hardware and software work as well as the Holux or Mapopolis?

Any Input?

I have heard and read over and over how nobody likes the ostia mapping software, although the pharos cf gps is a fine unit, and works with other maps.

i have a duleo mouse gps and destinator software. they fulfill my needs quite nicely.

Actually, I have the bundle package from the Dell website (Pharos CF GPS and the Ostia mapping) and love it. It is veryaccurate and easy to use (in my opinion), which is a plus for me as I knew nothing about these things before. The only complaint that I would have is that the Osita mapping software is a little weak on having a lot of Points of Interests. I contacted them about this and they indicated that there would be an update this summer with an increase in POI's.

I just took a trip over the weekend, around 500 miles round trip and didn't break out a map at all. The system was great and quick to re-route also. It may be that there are better systems out there but it suits my needs fine.

pharos is one of the cheapest solutions, however it is also one of the weakest. For people on a budget, i would suggest Mapopolis Navigator. The maps are only $99, and it is one of the best solutions out there.
