I'm getting ready to get a Dell Axim X50v (mainly as a GPS device, but I might use it for other things as well)

As many of you are aware, the Dell Axim X50v comes with Windows Mobile 2003 and that's the single aspect (aside from the battery life) that worries me about this purchase.

With the advent of Windows Mobile 2005 to be released sometime around the Summer of '05 (?), I'm a little scared that my model will be "outdated" sooner than I would like. I'll be getting a killer deal on the Axim X50v, so that's a plus, but it would be really nice if these devices are upgradeable.

Why exactly aren't they? Please excuse the idiocy, as I am new to handhelds and thus a complete n00b when it comes to the PDA platform.
I saw Magneto (Codename for WM2005) being run on different types of PDAs on various web sites.

Are some models going to be upgradeable to 2005? Is it a technical impossibility, or simply a marketing one (to force you to buy a new PDA).

It's not they aren't upgradable, but Dell has to be the one to offer the upgrade. If dell chooses not to, then we're all out of luck. If they do, then we'll all be :approve: :love: :) :cheers: :nw:
