Every time I use Tom Tom on my Axim X5 it locks up. I am using a Seido cradle with speakers. I have tried every mounting combination possible (e.g. put axim in cradle, insert speaker wire, turn on engine). I have soft reset the axim so many times that that reset button is now permanently dented. Also when it finally calculates the route, sometimes it will calculate again. This is so slow!

I have had this problem for the past year and I would really like it resolved. It is coming to the stage where i am thinking about dumping the x5 altogether.

I had exactly the same problem. I had the maps on a CF card and all my other programs on a SD card. Whenever I tried to use TomTom 3, it would either lock up completly or work for a 1/2 hour or so and then lock up. I decided to try installing one of the 16Mb maps directly in the main memory and that worked perfectly so I figured that the problem was something to do with my CF cards (Sandisk). I went out and bought a 512Mb SD card, put all my normal software and the maps I need (full UK and Germany = 390Mb) and I haven't had a problem since.
As far as a method for getting it to work, I normally plug in cradle and GPS, start car, soft reboot axim, start Tomtom and then plug axim into cradle.

Hope this helps cause when it works, it's great, never been lost since I got it.
