Axim X50v + BT-338 GPS nightmare.

Hi guys,

I just CAN'T seem to get these two working together with TomTom Navigator. It worked once, and that's it.

There's three problems I'm having with these two together.

1.) I can't get both units bluetooth paired. I open the bluetooth manager, go to the tools menu and click "add" and search for the device. it finds the BT-GPS-******. I then enter the passkey I want (a password I can remember), and then click OK. It says Authentication failed.

2.) I turn on bluetooth, manually establish a connection with the BT-338 GPS and enter TomTom Navigator 4.44 (or newest; not 5). Soon thereafter, TomTom reports "GPS signal lost bla bla seconds ago". I quit out of there and return to the Today screen and see that the Bluetooth icon is broken, indicating that the bluetooth connection is lost. This only happens when I open TomTom 2004.

3.) I can't run the Bluetooth connection with encryption. It brings me to the authentication dialog to enter the "Passkey" that I want to use. I enter whatever and click OK. It says "Connection Failed" "Unable to establish a connection. Please make sure the device is enabled and in range. etc..."

Does anyone know what the hell is going on? I'm a little frustrated with both of these devices, given the fact that I bought the PDA mainly for GPS functioning!

Please help me.

Don't know if this will apply or not...

Was going through hell with Holux 230 and X30 high. Here's what I gathered:

1) You can't pair a device that doesn't have a code.

2) TomTom seems to control the BlueTooth on its own and it seems to cause problems when you only want to use Bluetooth (without WiFi). Best thing to do is turn wireless off completely and start TT. It'll invoke GPS applet. From within TT GPS applet, choose your model (well, the closest one to yours you can find) and the BT COM port (in my case it was COM7). When you hit checkbox, TT GPS will enable BT and connect to GPS unit.

If you get this to work reliably, I'd like to know how well it works for you. In my case, it would get the GPS, everything would be working just great and then at some point Navigator position just freezes. Happened to me every time I'd use GPS, sometimes in 10 min, sometimes in an hour... Most interesting thing is that GSP util was still communicating with GPS unit (showed satellites and signal strength), but TT just wouldn't see it...

Good luck!

The only code that the 338 will recognize is "0000" (Zeros). None other. I don't have TomTom, so I can't help you with how that software works, sorry. No reason to encrypt GPS, particularly if you are using it in your car. The likelihood of problems is tiny.

It works!!

Thanks guys!

Basically, what I did was implement the Bluetooth™ pairing with a sequence of 0' (zeroes). Then, LEAVING Bluetooth™ off, I open TomTom Navigator and it turns BT on and autodetects the 338 by itself! Wonderful program!

Now, my next question is:

Is there ANY way to turn off that damn annoying "I AGREE" agreement on TomTom 2004's launch? It always asks me to agree to the legal statement on every launch. Annoying, to say the least!

No, it cannot be turned off. Blame the lawyers...

Oh well. It's an inconvenience, but I won't use anything but TomTom 2004.

I'm also having problems with the BT338 GPS and the x50v talking to each other. I have the Dell navigation software, which I believe is Navteq.

Once they are joined its OK until a power down, then it seems to take a soft reset to get thinks together again.

Any help appreciated.

BT doesn't like a power down with it still running. Loses the pairings. You don't need to soft reset (with A03 ROM) but you do need to restart the pairing. So, just before you shut down disable wifi and you're ok.
