Disappointed in GlobalSat BT-308

I read and read and read, and felt like I finally made an informed decision and bought the GlobalSat BT-308. Now I'm thinking I've made a mistake. I've got two big problems with the unit. First, the bluetooth range is horrible. At best, I get a good signal when I'm less than 2 feet away from the unit. Anything over 5 feet and the signal is almost too weak to work. Second is the WAAS. For whatever reason, I can't get it to work. It just won't get a DGPS signal. Also it seems I never get more then 5 sats with a good signal. A couple of times I got 7, but for very short time periods....

So I'm at the point where I can try another BT-308, or go with the Holux GR-231. There's not a whole lot on the board about the Holux. Anyone using it? Comments? Should I try another GlobalSat. They seemed to have a really good rep.

Thanks

I've been using BT-308 over a few months. I never had that problem.

At one time, I took my x30H + BT-308 from Toronto->Quebec and back, and I never lost a signal once during the whole trip.

The following trick might help to get faster connection:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\WIDCOMM\BtConfig\AutoConnect\000n

Where 000n is the COM port assigned to the GPS. For example if the COM port is 7 then 000n would be 0007. Add the DWORD BtBrowserEnabled with a value of 0. This is not really a glitch, this is as designed. To return to the default behavior either remove the entry or make the value 1.

FYI: BT-308 uses port 7.

I think that was the 338. He's using a 308. The 308 is supposed to have WAAS.
