TomTom Navigator 5 crashes on x50v

I installed TomTom Navigator 5 on my Axim x50v, but at random times it just quits (crashes?) and I'm back at the today screen. The previous version of TomTom (4.40) worked just fine.

I tried a hard reset and isntalling TomTom on a clean system, but the problem remains. Any ideas?

Hi, maybe you have memory problems? check your memory capacity and make sure that you have some free memory even when you have your desired maps installed. Try installing tom tom on another drive (say SD or CF). Or, whati did was install it on the main module but installed the maps on the SD card i have. I have not tried version 5 yet but i am planning to get it, so if there is a bug here please let's hear it...?

Are you using it with the TOMTOM BT GPS or some other GPS?

I also thought I had memory problems. That's why I did a hard reset and a complete reinstall of my device.
Maps are installed on an SD card. Navigator is installed in Storage Memory (RAM): it doesn't want to install to Built-in storage or SD. Just leaves an empty directory there and moves everything to Storage Memory anyway.

Memory status:
Storage Memory: 20.4MB, used 9.33MB
Program Memory: 41.3MB, used 16.22MB
Built-in Storage: 91.4MB, used 16.11MB
SD Card: 982.1MB, used 320.88MB

I'm using a non-TomTom BT GPS receiver, using a Nemerix chip.

Hello, I had the same problem at first. It turned out to be my GPS Receiver. After replacing the receiver, it worked fine. I now have TomTom Navigator 5 on my X50v using a BT-338 Receiver. All is good.

I have read about the problem on some other forum and it seems that it is caused by a bad POI file.
You have to disable all POI's or use an older POI file from version 4.4 or version 3.

I had the same problem on my X50v and this solved it!

I may have just figured out a workaround to get things working correctly. I installed a new app just now on my X50v and then TomTom stopped working, just as you describe. So I figured out how to get it working again, it may be the same thing with yours. You will need a
registry editor for your PPC, I recomend PHM RegEdit, it's free and
good. Check it out:

Open your registry editor on your PPC.

Browse to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Widcomm\AutoConnect\00 0x ("x"
is the number of the com port your GPS operates on, mine is on Com7 so
I navigate to "0007").

Locate the key "BtBrowserEnabled" and change it from "1" to "0".

Load up TomTom and go into the preferences and re-setup your GPS
Receiver. It should work now...

Where are you all who already have TT5? I'm assuming Europe, 'cause here in the States, AFAIK, it hasn't been released yet. I'm chompin' at the bit to get this baby on my X30.

Was testing my upgrade today and had a few program crashes :( I have altered the memory settings to give some extra to the program memory which will hopefully help out. I noticed that it seems to be using a lot when running so I am hoping this is the issue.

I figured as much. On this side of the pond we'll have to wait a bit, but by the sounds of the early reports, that may not be a bad thing. Whatever bugs are plagueing TT5 will hopefully be fixed by the time we get it. Most of these reports involve the X50V; anyone out there using it on an X30 High?

Though I haven't read any reports of issues on the pocketgpsworld forums. The main thing that seems to be getting talked about is the removal of some features.
