GpsPasSion article on GPS Chipsets and Receivers

While bowsing for info on GPS maps and receivers, I stumbled into GpspasSion.com and their 11 part article on GPS Chipsets and Receivers. It is the most comprehensive discussion of the various technologies and units available out there. A lot of the mystery has been reveiled (to me, at least).

I have provided a link here ( http://tinyurl.com/85tqw ) to part 9 (of 11 parts) where they talk about the SiRFstar III Chipsets and Receivers. They even include links to vendors (and provide many purchase discounts to GPS Passion members - enrollment is free). They close in part 11 with the conclusion that SiRFstar III is clearly the way to go. Upgrading to this latest technology should be considered if you are trying to operate in difficult enviornments (urban areas with many tall buildings, mountainous areas, or areas with HEAVY overhead vegetation) which can interfere with the ability to lock onto and maintain a fix with enough satelites to insure accurate, uninterupted tracking.

Also on the GPS Passion web site is the article: Advanced GPS Settings with SiRFdemo (and full tutorial) for those who are advanced enough to profit or have a compulsive need to always have the best. Those folks can use the link ( http://tinyurl.com/badyy ). For a while at least, I will settle for the "off the shelf" performance of my Globalstat BT-388 packed in a plastic sandwich bag (to protect it from moisture) tossed into the pocket of my rucksack when geotracking or into a pocket of my jacket when driving down the highway. I love it !!!

I also love my M/S Streets & Trips which I use on my laptop, Axim x50v, AND Audiovox SMT 5600 smartphone with my BT-388. I purchased ALK's Co-pilot some time ago (with it's serial GPS unit), but am reluctant to upgrade and still have to purchase a second, expensive ALK product to get their GPS services on my x50v (and there are issues in trying to share mapped routes and associated data). So, I'm seaching for an active and talking GPS mapping and tracking program that can be used on BOTH my laptop AND my x50v - any Suggestions?

There is not that many programs that can support both laptop and Pocket PC. iGuidnace V2.1.1 is probably a good choice.
