Charging X50v + BT338 in the car.

Has anybody tried charging the X50v and BT-338 GPS receiver together in the car, using the Y-cable that is provided in the OCN4+BT-338 package from www.buygpsnow.com?

Is there any restriction like X50v will charge only if it is off?

Or that the remaining battery power in the X50v should be above a certain percentage for it to charge?

A friend has that exact set up and he stated that it charges while it is on and works great.

You've got a 2200mah battery. With that battery, if it's pretty depleted, the charging rate, plus run time power for the X50 alone will be 1.5A. Add to that the charging power for the 338, and if you start with both nearly depleted, you'll get close to 2A needed. If the converter can provide that power, you'll be ok.

On the other hand, if you start with both fully charged, you may be able to get away with as little as 650 mA.

It's not the cable, it's the power converter limits...

I'm confused, I have a bt-338, it comes with a charger as well as a car charger, but it has one plug, not two. How on earth are you supposed to charge it when it has one plug???

My BT-338 came with another cable that hooks to the car charger so I can hook up both my x50v and the GPS. Actually I use it as an extension cable since my power outlet is in the center console of my GTO (not the best location for something on the dash)
