CF GPS vs. Seperate Receiver

I apologize if this has already been addressed...

I am trying to determine how a CF GPS solution compares with say getting a seperate blutooth reciever and software (e.g. BT-338+OCN4)

Are CF GPS recievers coming with the SIRF III chip? They look appealing to me since they will fit into the CF slot and I wont have to worry about carrying a seperate receiver or buying seperate software. If there is a something out there like this: CF GPS reciever with OCN4 software...that would be the ideal combination of all three things

Also, are there SDIO GPS recievers as well? (I might as well ask since with x50v, we have the flexibility of choosing either slot)

Thanks in advance...

I haven't heard of a CF GPS with SirfIII chipset. Even for a CF GPS receiver you will have to buy the GPS software. The reciever is only capable of receiving signals from the GPS satellite. You need software to plot those signals onto a map into a human understandable form. Also you need software for routing, etc. So irrespective of whether you are buying a CF GPS or BT GPS you need some kind of mapping software.

Yes you can combine nearly any kind of GPS receiver with any kind of software. Check out www.buygpsnow.com and you will find couple of CF GPS being bundled with OCN. Price wise I have found that CF GPS with OCN is nearly the same as BT GPS with OCN.

Yes there are SD GPS from Globalsat. Again check out the BuyGPSNow site or www.semsons.com site.

I personally prefer BT GPS to CF GPS for couple of reasons:
- CF GPS sucks more battery than a BT GPS.
- CF GPS takes away one of my slot. I have the BT GPS, I have loaded OCN and maps on SD card and my CF card has MP3, etc. So while driving and using the BT GPS for navigation, I can still listen to MP3 from my CF card.
- Some cars have windshield protection, which restricts satellite signals being received by the GPS. With a BT GPS, I can very easily move the GPS to the back of the car and still be able to navigate without any problem. With a CF GPS, I would not be able to do it.
- If I am using the GPS for geocaching, pedestrian mode in OCN, etc, I can just put the BT GPS in my pocket and use my PPC for navigating. I don't have this GPS thingy sticking out of my PPC.
