Tomtom 5, X50V, BT338
Hi
I got the dell axim x50v for my birthday and all i realy wanted to use it for is GPS, so i bought the Globalsat BT-338 bluetooth GPS receiver and the tomtom 5 software.
The problem is i dont know how to connect it all up, i have conneced the GPS receiver to the dell axim x50v through the GPS info programme provided by the GPS receiver and this seems to pick up the location via Com port 7 and baud rate 38400.
But when i try to configure my other bluetooth receiver to the tomtom software it just says no device found. Some people say i should use the wired NMEA option with a baud rate of 4800 but there is still no signal found, although in this instance the tomtom software says looking for valid GPS signal.
Can anyone help me??!??!?!??!?!
Thanks

OK steps what worked for me
to do that qiucker make sure you have good gps signal - green led should blink!
start tt5
choose wired nmea gps
it may take up to 45 sec-1 min for program to find gps receiver but it will find it
if it work try to experiment a little, that worked for me
choose your gps again but change speed to 38400 and chec if it works
if it does change gps to other bluetooth gps and choose port what your gps should be on
tt5 should find gps again:)
I dont know why it works that way - maybe switching to different protocols when speed being change?
I have it working on same hardware like yours
good luck

X50v + BT-15 + tomtom5 is working
I've got a Bluetooth GPS ( Part number: BT-15 Mfg.Part No.: SDBT15 ) that works fine with tomtom5.
What I did was as following:
1- Do Paired devices (done in X50v, under Bluetooth Manager)
For my BT, I use key 0000 for pairing. You may check
your BT manual for the key. For my case, the BT-15 is
connected to COM7
2- run tomtom 5, select:
Change preferences ->
Show GPS Status -> Configure
Then select "Other Cable NMEA GPS" (Yes Cable, not Bluetooth)
Select GPS baud rate (4800)
At "GPS is connected to:" screen, select "Bluetooth Serial port COM7" (This may depend on what COM# your X50v is connected to your BT)
select Done
That's it.
To operate, turn on your Bluetooth device first, then turn on Bluetooth on your X50v. Then run tomtom5. It may take a couple seconds for tomtom recognize the signel from GPS device.
Hope this help.
If you still have problem, you may need to check to make sure that you X50v can connect to your BT first, before run tomtom.

I suggest you do the test outside the house in the open sky so you can be sure that your BT device can recieve signal from satellites. You may need to try using other GPS software such as GPSDash (SHAREWARE) to see if your PPC can work with your BT device. After knowing that the two can work together, you can try to use it with tomtom and solve any problem you may have. -giahu001

I read from another poster ebuyer.com and on this forum that tom tom 5 does not work properly (i.e crashes) Dell Axim x50v. I also bought the PDA for this use as well as for other purposes. Can anybody else give me their experiences?
Thanks.

Yes it does.
You need to download the 5.10 patch from the TomTom website. This fixes the memory leak and allows TT5 to run for more than 30-40 mins. It also allows you to select your BT GPS as a BT GPS rather than "Other cable GPS". It does make the BT device the default BT device, and there's no way to override this, so you won't get to choose the BT device you connect to in the BT manager. If you only have one BT device that's fine. Otherwise continue to use the "Other cable GPS" and you still get to select the BT device via the BT manager.

Axim x50v, Tomtom 5, BT338 not working
I have read this post with great interest, but I am still not able to connect to my BT338 GPS device from Tomtom 5.
Here is what happened right now:
-- Using WinFast Navigator, I can see the signal from BT338 using BT serial com port 7
-- Using GPSInfo, (disk version with sspmodem, and/or downloaded versions from semsons tech support site), it can not talk to BT338.
-- Using Tomtom 5, it states "No GPS device!", even when I connected device using Bluetooth Manager before I starts Tomtom 5.
-- Thinking that WinFast Navigator or GPSInfo may interfere with Tomtom 5, I uninstalled both from the device, and it still did not work.
-- I reinstalled Tomtom several times, and it still does not work.
Few notes on the background. When I first installed GPSInfo (disk version) and Tomtom 5, I was able to connect to Tomtom 5 and running it with no problem. But I was never able to use GPSInfo to see the signal. Later, the system crashed (I ran out of battery) and I reinstalled Tomtom 5, and I have tried days but still can't get it work. Please help! Thanks.

In addtion to the symptom described above, I am not able to see com port 6 on my list. I used to be able to use the port 6.

I have the same damn problem.
TT5 ****s blows for its incessant inoperability with the BT-338. iGuidance works perfectly, however.
Too bad, too, since TT5 is probably my favorite GPS solution.
EDITED TO "G" rating.

Axim x50v, Tomtom 5, BT338 not working
Finally I got it working with my Bluetooth Receiver Bt-338 using bluetooth com port 7.
I went to Tomtom support site and downloaded upgrade version 5.10 and 5.21 and installed both in the right sequence. Now everything works perfectly.
