how much memory for the maps?

Hi Guys,
How much memory should be sufficient for US Maps. I am going to buy a 256MB SD card. Is that enought for maps. I would like to carry a few mp3s as well.

Check with the manufacture of whatever mapping software you're using. I would think 256 would be plenty though.

That depends on what you wanted..

The entire mapopolis database of maps
is around 610 MB for US and canada,
and these are zipped... uncompressed it
would be at least 1 gig i imagine..

But if you only want like interstate maps of all US
you could definately fit that on there..

Mapopolis Platinum+ maps are 594MB on a cd while zipped.(50 states zipped individually, zipped Platinum Place guides, and non zipped Major Roads by state. 532MB with just the state maps.) This was downloaded 12/18/2002. I need to redownload them all soon anyways.

As for unzipped, good question, but my guess would be maybe 800+MB.

Why would you want to re-download them?

they are still the same release as on 12-18-02

I've also noticed that the GPS Navigator maps
are identical in size to the platinum ones..

Because at the time I had decided on Platinum+ and later changed my subscription to Platinum+GPS.
