OCN5 concerns

Im considering getting a bt gps bundle from buy gpsnow.com and i have narrowed it down to iguidence or OCN5. I really like OCN5 but it seems to be missing a route list option, so how am i supose to figure out where i am going before i hit the road. I dont like to be supprised with turns or roads without knowing before i start my trip. Corecct me if im wrong about OCN but it seems stupid to exclude a view to allow you to see your trip in advance.

You can see the route in advance. It displays on the map screen. It doesn't have a listing of turn-by-turn directions, but you can zoom in the map, scroll around and see exactly what it has planned.

OCN4 has got a show driving directions, doesn't OCN5 have it? Was it removed?

Why on earth was it removed?
I wen from a dedicated GPS unit (Garmin Street Pilot III) to a handheld based solution, still to find anything close.

I think the listed directions were very handy

I would have to agree with everyone else - It is handy to have it in the product and I think more people would like to have it than would not. I would suggest we all leave some feedback on the OCN website. As soon as I get mine I am going to play with it to see if I can live without it, which I am sure I can but I would like to see it back again soon.

I hate to lose features as much as the next guy, but personally I never used the route list. The map has always been just fine for me.

I searched and haven't found an answer to this. I see that navteq is used by iguidance, dell and now I see on OCN5. This means that there is no difference in the amount of POIs listed the areas that are mapped. I am a first time pocket pcer and gpser(iguidance and gsbt338) as of about two weeks ago and I was trying out my gps and found out that my job is not listed on there. The street is, but the address numbers fall short. The building has been around for 20ish years on a major street. The main question is "would this be true for all the navigation software that use navteq?" I looked at OCN5 and it looks good, but I want a comprehensive map with POIs MSandT seems to have this, but it lacks in alot of other ways. I would like to try OCN5, based on how smooth the graphics look alone, but will I basically be getting the same mapping data....

Give me the address and I will see if it is in OCN5. Unfortunately, that is a problem with navigation program. If the problem is in the map database they receive from NAVTECH (OCN5, iGuidance, etc). or TelAtlas (PMN, etc), then it will be in all programs using that map data. My house is about 1.5 blocks off in OCN5. I just added the exact location by setting the GPS at the end of the drive and telling OCN5 to save the current GPS location. Another option is to select the location on the map. I did that for several of our locations at work that are off the beaten path. I just select the road location on the map that is the closest before our private roads take over.

First impressions
  • Faster than OCN4 by a whisker
  • Same memory requirements, I'm getting MEMORY ALLOCATION ERRORS (I have 15 MB free)
  • Why on earth do they have to place a large banner on my Today's Screen, I only use the program abot once a month, use my x50v for almost 2 hours a day
  • Same problem with entering addresses, some zip codes appear missing, I reported this problem to OCN with OCN4, it does not seem to have been fixed in OCN5, the reason I was given with OCN4 was it was a Navteq issue

You can remove the Today screen banner. Go to Settings/Today/Items and uncheck the OCN listing.
