What is the best way to install a 2nd mapping prog?

I have a X30H w/bluetooth and a Belkin Bluetooth GPS and two 1GB SD cards. My present GPS routing program is on the first SD card and I have about 250MB free. I just bought OCN5 (L) and want to install it without uninstalling my present GPS software. What is the best way to do that, so I'll have the least conflicts? Should I install the entire program on a separate SD card, Not just the maps? Is there anything that I should be aware of when setting up a bluetooth connection for the second GPS program? I'm pretty new to the ins and outs of the workings of my PDA. Mostly I use it with my GPS.
Thanks,
cadjak

I've had up to three installed on the same card without a problem. However, each one has to be configured with the receiver the first time it's used.

You can install as many different GPS programs on the same card or different card as you like. You will have problems if you try to install two versions of the same GPS software on your PPC, for example installing both OCN4 and OCN5 at the same time. But you can have one version of OCN working fine with iGuidance, TomTom or any other GPS software.

As Gigi pointed out, you will have to configure each GPS application individually.

Also, once one GPS software establishes a connection to your BT GPS reciever, the COM port is held by the software. You will have to close your BT connection and start it up again before using the second GPS software. The best option would be to soft-reset your X30H after using each GPS software. This way, all BT connections will be closed and if there are any memory leaks, that will also get resolved.

I run a program on my Axim x50v called GPS Gate that lets you use as many gps programs as you want at the same time by assigning virtual ports. I have and do run as many as three gps programs at once without any problem. :approve:

Since there won't be enough room to install all the maps I need, plus the program, on my existing card. I will insert my empty storage card. When I install OCN5, and I'm asked do I want to install on the default location, should I just tell the installation software to install OCN5 on my storage card, at that point?

What will happen when I start up without the Belkin program info available? I have the Belkin program on my start menu. I know that I can't just switch back and forth between the two different programs, without changing my storage card to do that. Will my Axim go looking for the Belkin program, and not finding it, generate some error message?

I appreciate the help. I am out of my depths with PDA stuff.

Yes, just tell OCN5 to install into SD card and you should ok with that.

When you say the Belkin program is in Start menu, do you mean that when you click on Start menu, you can see an option to run Belkin program OR is it that you have added Belkin program to your StartUp program folder?

If you have added it to the StartUp program folder then, whenever you soft-reset, Axim will try to run the Belkin program and that will give you an error. But this will happen only after a soft-reset and not when you are just turning on your Axim.

If your Belkin program is just visible under the Start menu then you will not have any problem even after you soft-reset your Axim or even when you are just turning on your Axim.

Hope I have answered your question correctly.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was asking.

I'm jazzed to get the new software. Off to Alaska tomorrow, if I ever finish packing. OCN5 is the first program to use the new Navteq Alaska maps. There aren't a lot of roads, but it's always nice to have my GPS helping. Hopefully, the learning curve for OCN5 will be brief.
