Ext Antenna

Hiya, Ive got a Dell BT GPS model BT309.

This has a socket for an external antenna.
This would be handy as my car has a sheilded / metallic
windscreen. I would like to be able to put the unit on the dash to share the power socket with the Axim.
Then the antenna could be fed tidily to the rear of the car and will work better.
I also have a second power supply in the glove box which the axim can get a good BT signal from the GPS, but obviously no Sat signal can reach. This would mean " out of sight, no thieving bastadge can see " senario !!

So which is best? And best place to buy?
Any go outside the car for even better sat picup??

Cheers for any help

You might be better asking this question in the GPS forum or alternatively head over to pocketgps.co.uk, where you'll find suggestions of good(and not so good retailers) and reviews of various ext. antenna.
In short you can get mag mount, body mount or glass mount antenna as well as the ones with suction cups for inside the windows.

Put the GPS receiver on the dash inside a small kleenex box with just a few kleenex in it, then run the power line out the side of the box down to the cigarette lighter plug.

Well, I googled up this link which lists the BT309 in its compatibility list. I think that as long as you have a GPS antenna with the proper connector, you can use it.
p.s. Nice "Johnny Dangerously" reference. Don't let any farging eyesoles get to your GPS!

ebay usually has a few GPS antenna sellers with prices typically between $15-20. You should be able to find MCX and MMCX fittings. I think the BT309 is MMCX, but you should verify in advance.
