I think the answer you are going to get from everyone is that "it depends on what you need it for." I think your best bet is to do some research. There are people who swear by OCN5. Some people prefer iguidance. They both have their strong points and drawbacks. You just have to do some research and see which product is best for you. Good luck and happy searching.

I'll be honest with you. I have no idea when it comes to car mounts. Sorry. I know that somebody will be along that will have a better answer to your questions. In fact, I am looking into getting a GPS setup myself so I am only in research right now.

I have a 2 year old X5 and use the Pharos CF GPS system. Since I am a real estate broker in Baltimore Maryland, I use it daily and am very disappointed with the softwares performance. Although it is more accurate than our weather forecasters…it ain’t much better. I’ve actually had many negative comments from customers riding in my car.
It seems to lose its signal often, get confused and give wrong directions, announce turns AFTER you’ve already passed them and generally just piss ya off.

Well, I really needed something much more reliable since I must plan routes to maybe 10 houses at a clip. I heard some really good things about Mapopolis....The software is free and you download maps to try it out that are good for 8 days. It was love at first sight! www.mapopolis.com

When I was looking for a new mount, I read all the reviews and went with the powered AKRON windshield mount for my x5. I was assured that it was compatable and would work just fine. First, the amplified speaker can't be used because it is blocked by thr GPS receiver(so what good was that powered mount?). The charging cable is so loose that it falls out and therefore I can't use it. The sticky stuff on the windsield ain't sticky enough and each morning the mount has fallen onto the floor. It has also fallen numerous times with the axim on it. Luckily it has not broken the screen. I was a piece-O- crap that I threw away. I went to Wal-mart and bought some Velcro and made my own mount for less than $5. It works great and never drops the Ax...Oh yeah...The free vent mount wouldn't work either, so I used parts of it for my homemade mount
Do what I did...small piece of velcro on the dash and another small piece (a large postage stamp size)on the axim....works better than anything else I've tried. Costs less than a buck!!
