Hello all. Hope someone can help me seeing the OCN team isn't. Since updating from OCN4 to OCN5, the software no longer detects my bluetooth GPS unit. I ran Winfast Navigator and the GPS and the Axim x50v are communicating just fine. After explaining this to OCN, I received a response to run Winfast??? Not much help seeing I had already explained to them I had done this. Anyhow, whether I connect the GPS unit with my x50 before starting OCN5 or if I just start OCN5 and see if the software detects the GPS unit, neither works. Any thoughts or suggestions? (Products - Axim x50v, OCN5 and AVL Bluettoth GPS receiver). Thanks very much
You're using the same GPS+software combo as I do. This may sound like a Dell rep, here's what I suggest. Try to delete the BT partnership, reset and try. If it doesn't work, back up all of your stuff, hard-reset, and try it. On the first run of OCN5, I paired before running OCN5, after that, I just turn the BT on my x50v, and tab OCN5.
BT as implemented on the PPC (all, not just Dell) has a major problem with robust connections. Sometimes the only solution is to soft-reset and re-establish the connection from scratch. I would suggest a soft-reset, enable BT on the Axim, delete and recreate the pairing with the GPS receiver in BT Manager and then restart OCN5 and connect. After that the connection should work better, at least for a while, until the inherent weakness in BT reappears and forces another soft reset.
No luck and I am getting more frustrated by the minute. I have tried everything and still, OCN5 does not detect a GPS signal. My Axim x50v has the latest ROM OC5, it is already BT paired and works fine with a dongle (to activesync - thanks for the tutorial Jake), a headset and a cell phone with no problems. No matter how many resets, sequences I follow to start up, OCN5 does not detect the GPS. I used WINFAST Navigator and can get the GPS to give me position signals on my Axim, but OCN5 does not see it. To further my frustration, the OnCourse site "help" has sent me nothing helpful - they just keep telling me to reset my GPS?? The previous OCN4 and the previous version of ROM worked fine together?!?!?! I am throughly disppointed with OCN5 and am beginning to think just changing the the GPS software is the solution because OCN5 is the worst "upgrade" I have ever seen.
Only one app can use GPS signals at a time, unless you are using GPSGate to duplicate ports. Make sure you kill WINFast before you run OCN or WINFAST will block OCN from seeing the signals. I've been using OCN5 for a very long time (I was a beta tester) with BT with great success, so it's something in your setup that is creating the problem.

I don't believe you can pair BT devices in simultaneously with the Axim X50v. You can only pair one BT device at a time. So, if you're using your Axim and paired it with your phone, trying to pair another BT device even if its using another port will fail.
Try pairing only to the BT GPS unit (directly). Its nothing to do with OCN. Dell updated their BT stack in A05 ROM, but even without the BT stack update, the Axim was still able to connect to OCN without the new BT stack update.
Best would be to delete the current BT GPS pairing on the Axim and re-create it. And, do not connect to your GPS device. Let OCN5 connect to it.
You might checkout this thread: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=96345. I guess I got lucky I download the A05 ROM update about the same time OCN5 was arriving. I decided to do the ROM update and then reinstall everything and then install OCN5.
Hello again...just a follow up...I did not mean that I had multiple BT items connected at the same, what I meant was the other items all connected fine (including the GPS through WINFAST navigator) so why would the OCN5 software not pick up the signal? Anyhow, much to my surprise and amazement, OCN has offered to pick up both my Axim and GPS unit via FEDEX and try and get them to work together. Here is the real kicker, if they cannot get them to pair, they will replace my Axim to get one that works!!! I just wanted to make sure everyone following this found out how big OCN stands behind their product. What I am going to do is yet another hard reset and only put OCN5 and pair the GPS, no other software, and try to get it to work, if this still doesn't produce results I will send it in to OCN to have them try and pair them up, they apparently have people there with my type of config and they can get theirs to work.
Last note...did not even have to perform the hard reset. I received an email from someone on another GPS post site who told me to try and configure the GPS manually by using the autodetect on OCN5. As he suspected, OCN5 was not trying to detect the signal through the correct COM port which I was able to configure manually. It now appears that OCN5 now detects the GPS signal. Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
